If you try this and cant get ignition contacts back in correct it will not crank mine flew in air because I didn't know harnesses hold them in and they have to be perfect before plugging back in. Gently pry the dash up. My situation may be exceptional, since my radio was loose to begin with, but the only contacts the radio made with the car, once the front was off, were two in back. I slid a screwdrive under the edge of it and pried it up. If you are in the middle of something and have to drive turn signals wont work without dash piece on due to emergency lights being there.
After you do it the first time, its no sweat. You need to have your book with all your serial no's etc. The solution to our electrical problems will likely be that we will trade it in for something else. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done for my factory radio? The first thing to try to replace is the ignition switch not the whole ignition, just the electronics. Unfuse the airbag too or you may die or lose even more money. It will be repeated twice 12.
My daughter's 1998 Lumina got a new battery along with a locked radio yesterday. After reading all the posts on this subject, I also came across one that said, if nothing happens you should leave your car running for 1 hour. This should reset your stereo. They may have the code stored in their computer system if they sold the car. Take your ignition switch out.
Write down all the numbers to be safe. Takes about 1 hour to take dash apart. Open the glove box and look for two screws way in the back. Try calling the dealership first, they are not supose to give the codes out over the phone but some times they will. My daughter buoght a 98 Malibu that needed some work done and when they disconnected and reconnected the battery the battery went into loc and the gas gauge went all the way around to the pin limiter.
When the radio is removed or the power supply is interupted, such as the battery is removed The radio code will have to be reset. Oh and if there was no code programed the default is 0000. My radio is now working great! Before removing both covers, make sure you are doing so in a box in case the pins and springs pop out and roll away. It's more of a frame than anything else, and is not screwed on, it snaps on and off. This will work, but occasionally the radio will cut off, so you will have to press 5, seek and power, each time you turn it on.
As an electrical engineer, I also believe there is an inherent design flaw because there are too many issues reported. A few weeks later the air bag light kept coming on and the radio locked up many times but we found that we could shut the car off and open and close the door and restart the car and the indicator lights would go out and radio would work again. Then phone Kia in your country eg Kia Australia and give them all the right info and they'll give you the code over the phone. They are the most standard type of radio in vehicles and hi-fi tuners, according to the Radio Electronics website. Auto Zone put in new battery.
The dealer thought I was just a stupid girl who didn't know what I was talking about and brushed me off because they couldn't duplicate the problem. If I follow instruction exactly radio displays locked initially and does not allow or recognize button sequence. Hope you find this helpful. If start is not delayed ten or so minutes the securoty ;ockout time when the car wont start restarts to ten or more minutes from the last attempt. Been having this issue intermittently for years.
Try locating the radio serial by using the radio serial retrieval procedure located at Section 1. If you get an override code that starts with 0, you drop the 0 when entering the code into your radio. This code should come with the paperwork you got when you purchaced the car. Unscrew the radio and pull it out 7 Unplug the antenna pull on it slowly it will come out 8. Then press and hold number 1.
Otherwise you are probably going to have to remove the radio and get the Serial … off the radio. Take those out be careful not to drop them or they are gone forever 3. Inline it to the wire responsible from the switch of ignition with silder and heat shrink and try the same key, being careful not to fuel lockout by trying too many times turning a 4 second wait into continuous frustrating 9 instead of ten min or more intervals. And if its to protect the radio itself… Who would steal the pieces of crap having to tear the dashboard out? We plan to do the same. Now I have tried pushing the 2 and 3 and all the ones on here, and nothing comes up at all. Good luck, and yes, it does work. To take out the radio on the 2000 Cav get ready to do some work.
Is this an issue with the safemode or with installation? It cost me 2 hours, no money. All indicators started cycling Security, Check Engine, Seat Belt, Oil etc. Once the cover is removed you should see 5 fairly big electric contacts. Write this code down so you have it if you ever need it again. The call will give you a 3 or 4 digit override code. Try this, it worked for my 1998 Sunfire and a 1975 Monte Carlo.
