Director Saravanan also convinces us that he knows what he is doing and makes us understand that the jumps between genres are very much intentional. Still, there's plenty more fun to be had watching 'Maragadha Naanayam' than your typical cliched Tamil horror-comedy. Another thing is the female lead who performances well than the hero. A person wishing for a thrill ride avoid this movie. No thrills in it but the greatest aspect is it's comedy which is general and can be viewed by anyone. A good film for those who love movies of different genre.
Climax is not that clear, could be expanded. The scenes don't pack a punch as a coherent whole but are entertaining in bits and pieces. Cracks you up when Ramdoss tells his fellow spirits that the Black Nun from 'The Conjuring 2' is just a relative of theirs, hence there's no need to be scared of her, only to jump off the seat in sheer fright the very next second. The four are among the 132 victims of the Irumporai King. To safeguard themselves from the evil spirit to whom the relic belongs, they seek the help of three ghosts!. And Chidambaram calls upon the spirits of three of his dead friends — Mahendran Nikki Galrani , Nesamani Arunraja Kamaraj and Tamil Ayya Sangili Murugan.
Most importantly, the villain in this film is an old rusted truck, which reminds of a decade ago water lorries. The plot revolves around cash-strapped Senguttuvan Adhi , a small-time smuggler, who, along with his co-smuggler Ilango Daniel Pope , agrees to stealing the titular Maragadha Nanayam, a historical artefact belonging to the king of Irumporai, whose ghost, it is believed, is said to kill anyone who lays his hand on it. The narration could have also been tighter, as many a scene goes far too long despite making its comic points. The climax sequence is also low on humor and more reliant on 'spirit-sentiment' and this works only in parts. Even the small dose of romance between Senguttuvan and Chanakya Nikki Galrani , which we get in the beginning and makes us apprehensive, gets a unique, comic twist. Ramdoss, Anandaraj and Daniel Annie Pope fetch maximum points on hilarity. Ramdoss Munishkanth has done his job extremely well.
S Bhaskar is a laugh riot where he questions the gangster whose name is 'Twinkle Ramanathan' if he runs a play-school! The romance between Aadhi and Nikki is short-lived but how her character makes a return to the story is interestingly done. Meanwhile, Twinkle Ramanathan Anandraj , a gangster, too, gets into the mix! It doesn't have any black comedies. But these shortfalls do not rob the amusing quality of the film. While the length of the film and its supposed sentiment towards the spiritual side may put you off a bit, there's still an exciting central plot hidden somewhere in the film that's not fully explored into. The comedy largely works because of its ridiculousness; the casting choices are sublime. More laughs emanate during the 'torture' scene. Among them, this is one of the films which is a success.
Nowadays, Tamil cinema comes with a lot of films with horror comedy. Good plot, liked the concept of curse on a ancient stone. The short scene with M. Maragatha Nanayam does take some time to set up its characters and initially, the changes its tone are jarring, but once the plot kicks in, the film starts to entertain, handsomely. I expected some terrific chasing scenes by villain truck , but what available in scenes are usual boring runways. .
