Posted on May 24, 2009 sounds like u have an e4od trans with a torque converter that is slipping when it try's to lock in. Also, someone else asked about the throughout bearings?. Accidents occur when Park is not engaged fully at the transmission. Its a little knurled so it dosen't slip when you push it back down with your thumb. I found the steps online, but, i dont seem to see any kind of clip in the cable at the transmission end, although i do see what appear to be teeth on the plastic part of the cable, so, what am i missing? I will drive mine until it quits if it does. As I was saying check with the garage and see what they have to say.
This part is also known as Ford F150 Pickup Floor Shift Assy; Ford F150 Pickup Transmission Shift Assembly; Ford F150 Pickup Trans Shift Assy. Then doing the rebuild and hoping it's all good with no guarantees on if it will or how long it may last. When engine is off, it will go in gears, when its running it will go into gears, but wont move, except for overdrive and reverse. First, the transmission lever at the transmission must be in Park position when the shifter at the column points to the Park position. If you have od and reverse and you can shift into gear with the truck running.
The transmission can be repaired, you might find that a rebuit transmission might cost less than having the one that is in there now to be rebuilt. The first thing I did was rebuild the trany, no luck same exact conditions. Sounds as though your direct drive clutch pack has gone out. A tranny shop can hook up to two different line pressure ports to evaluate the problem. Hollander® Interchange® is the property of Hollander, a Solera company.
Without being able to actually drive to evaluate it makes it very hard to give you a starting point for trouble shooting. There is an actuator solenoid on the left side of the steering column under the dash that disengages the shifter lock when the brake is depressed. If it worked all right when they put the bushings in, check with the garage you had it repaired at. Last question, how important is the whole, having a 3 pound weight hanging from the shifter? In the event this system malfunctions, the shift lever may be stuck in the Park position. Took into repair shop, they replaced the boot and some bushings. Place your transmission back in park, then release the parking brake.
It really was all of the sudden, it hadnt been slipping, sticking, nothing. Once the catch is secure and teeth cinched, the cable length is adjusted. Truck has had clutch and slave cylinder replaced in May. It is what the clutch forks are pushed in with whenyou push on the clutch. Once the fluid gets burned it needs to be changed immediately or problems will result if you let it go and try to change later. He described it as a horshoe type part. While your assistant is holding that lever back take your thumb and push that locking mechanism down.
With engine off can you shift it in other gears ok? Try taking the boot off again and check the shifter bushings. You can simulate this weight as you move the shifter. I unhooked the shift cable from the transmission, and then made sure it was in park, by moving the shift lever on the transmission manually, and it started without an issue, so, my question is, how do you adjust the shift linkage. We have checked the tranny fluid and replenished it. It's very important that Park is accurate at the column shifter and the transmission lever. Ford apparently finds 3 pounds appropriate.
That's why Ford quit using them. You and them go under the truck and at the shift shaft you both will find the Throttle Valve lever located outside of the shift shaft. A tranny shop can hook up to two different line pressure ports to evaluate the problem. Then you go back to the locking mechanism you just pulled up. Have your assistant pull that lever to the rear of the transmission with 8 lbs of force.
At the cable support bracket near the transmission's shift lever at the transmission end , there should be a release catch on the locking disc that surrounds the teeth you see. E40d trany in fourth gear accelerating or not it will vibrate badly but only slightly in any other gears. There are many hard parts to check for tolerances internally. How is the transmission fluid? What this means is that many things outside of the transmission itself can cause the transmission to act up. If you experience this complaint always check for blown fuses and brake light switch operation before proceeding with other work.
May 24, 2009 That is a lot of miles on the tranny. Approx 2 hours after parking it, the same issue started again. Also the torque converter has a lock up mechanisim in side which may have given up the ghost. Was told to check clamp under floor gear shift, replaced entire gear unit. Put your throttle valve assy. On a more pragmatic level, you will need to remove the gear shifter entirely if you are going to access and work on the manual transmission. They checked it and replaced the boot and some bushings.
Each shift position at the lever should align with the pointer position. You don't have to take the cover off, but only if you want to. Once the cable is adjusted to the right length, the catch is then snapped back into position. I think its a computer problem. When you loosen the release catch, this should free the teeth for adjustment. Not to mention the mess and time and frustration of taking on the task. Will the entire tranny need replaced or is this a repairable issue? Moses, i know we covered this in the other post, at least a little bit, but i figured it might be better to start a whole new post about it.
