The vehicle was later driven to the dealer, who replaced and reprogrammed the turbo-charger. We just previusly had the truck at a dealership for over 15 days and they could not diagnos the problem we were having of loss of power. The engine was checked for any visual problems and then started again. The fire was extinguised before it comsumed the entire vehicle. He found the engine running poorly, and found low compression on cylinders 3 and 8. Ford has now told the fleet service department they are aware of the problem but do not know how to fix it. I have contacted my dealer and they said this is a very common problem.
This is a truck that has been babied and up to date for all maintenance. Was at the dealer ship for over 5 weeks getting engine replaced. Will I ever buy Ford again? Has had numerus injectors changed, and many other equipment failures. The intake manifold had popped lose. Please investigate this major problem with Ford trucks and other vehicles with the 7. This occurred at various speeds, and in all incidents the vehicle restarted. Vehicle ran rough lost power.
I specifically asked, that why would they not recall a part they know is not efficient? This does not even include getting the coolant fixed. He removed the engine and found the pistons in cylinder 3 and 8 melted down. The consumer stated the vehicle lost power and white smoke emitted from the tailpipe. He had to bore out and hone all the cylinders, replace all 4 valves in cylinder 3 head, replace all pistons, replace the main bearing and rod bearing, update the oil cooler and replace 8 pistons and 6 head gaskets. It was determined that the engine failed again. The concern is the run away engine.
I finally had to leave for fear the engine would blow up in my face. I can't imagine the problems we would have if driven 500 miles a week. Ford warranties diesel engines to 5 year 100,000. However this did not remedy the problem. I am now afraid to drive thinking that it may stall again in heavy traffic and cause a crash.
I pulled off the road and called Ford north scottsdale. I towed it to the Ford dealership and was told that the problem was most likely the turbo that went out which caused the engine failure. It was discovered that the icp sensor injector control pressure was the problem. They told me to get it to the nearest dealership. The dealer performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the egr exhaust system valve but the dealer did not replace the egr valve.
The problem has progressed to the point that the vehicle has complete loss of power at stop, particularly when in reverse. The consumer was told because an after market chip was installed in the vehicle, the engine would not be covered under warranty. If it is, the turbo caused the failure and we are beeing told that the warrenty on the new engine will not cover the damage. In March 2009, while towing a tractor, the truck lost power and again it emitted smoke and there was a harsh jerk. I took it to the dealer the next day and they said there was no problem with the truck. After many attemps to restart the engine I was helped to push the vehicle off to the side of the road where it sat for about 45 minutes and after a final attempt it started as normal and has been running fine since.
I got diagnostics done and the head gaskets blew. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and denied assistance with the repairs due to the age of the vehicle. On June 24, 2008, I was driving when my truck overheated. The vehicle was then taken to a local mechanic for a second diagnostic which located the failure at the fuel injection control module box and the glow plugs module. The number 8 injector had failed, the transmission needed a new part and the fuel gauge needed a new sensor. The contact stated that the vehicle could not be started in cold weather.
Lots of exhaust smoke came from the tail pipe but there was no power. The vehicle has had three computer program updates - none of which has fixed the problem. On two separate occasions the consumer was unable to backup an incline. The truck was pulled to the side of the road and shut off. I am disabled and on social security with a very fixed income and cannot afford the cost of this repair. The consumer had a multitude of problems with the vehicle lacking power and blowing out white smoke, at times the vehicle would hesitate on start up, it jerked when the consumer attempted to accelerate, there was a rattling noise when the consumers foot was released from the accelerator. My entire rig - truck, trailer and horses, had to be towed home and then the truck towed to the mechanic.
Customer care and was told that the truck was out of warranty and that the cost to repair 1500. They cant stand behind their product or help their customer. My spouse was nearly rear ended by a hay truck while trying to get onto the highway. My concerns are what will happen when the warranty runs out and I need to pay 1500 for a turbo or new engine or injectors. They said that the ejr coolants are not good on those trucks and most likely it gave out. In the fall of 2008, the vehicle developed an oil leak. I think that is because he was not hauling a trailer and that's the only time the problem occurred.
The only temporary fix is to turn the engine off and restart the vehicle. The number 1 and number 3 injector had failed and there was a new oil leak. It only happened when I was over 55 mph and it only happened when I was hauling. The turbo randomly shuts down and the vehicle will not accelerate over 45 - 50 mph. I told my grandwon who was traveling with me to hit the ditch and I tried to remove the battery cables.
