Really slows down on hills when towing, too, but it says right in the owner's manual it wasn't designed to tow. Now only if my wife was a low maintenance as this car. Oh, and the seats are okay, and being locally produced, I supported local manufacturing at the time. The clock light has stopped working. Once it was up and running, I did some rust repair which was minor and it's been running daily since. Looks like I'll tow it within a couple blocks of a dealership and drive it into the lot using its last gear 1st and trade it in.
It's not pretty anymore, but never fails to start and get me where I need to go. The starter cap started to go at around 160,000 kms; that's it, and this is a normal maintenance type repair. . If I let it sit for more than 2 weeks, it smokes a little on start-up, but I almost never have to top it off between changes. Faults: The headliner started falling off at about 81,000 km.
Yes Review Date: 3rd March, 2011 Faults: Nothing major went wrong with the car, practically nothing at all! Factory sound system has good sound, though the cassette player eventually quit working. Best of luck with your Corolla, not that you'll need it of course. And many other long distance trips. I would recommend the car. I have 195,000 miles on my Corolla which I think is around 312,000 kilometers , but even my Corolla doesn't really use that much oil. I also own a '96 Toyota Corolla.
The cassette deck acts weirdly sometimes. The only complaint I have with my Corolla is that she does use oil - about 1 liter every 500-600kms it's valve seals, the car was sitting for about 1 year before I was able to fix it up. Performance is acceptable considering it's an automatic. Paint is a bit faded but not bad for the age of the car and not having been kept in a garage. Has never needed more than a brake light bulb to pass inspection. I've replaced the motor mounts and timing belt, no other big-ticket items. We change the oil every 10,000 miles.
This car never let me down. General Comments: Words cannot explain my love for this car! At 210,000 miles the car lost 4th gear, skipping 4th wasn't that big a deal, but then fairly quickly 3rd went out, followed by 5th, and then 2nd. Gets about 35 mph on the highway. Decent on gas, averaging about 400km-520 Hwy Driving per tank. Basically we beat the heck out this car and it just wont quit. Both engines are equally reliable, but the 1. Good cargo space--trunk is quite large and back seat can be folded down for long objects.
Drove from Canada to Los Angeles 3 times! Valve seals are a fairly common failure in both of these engines. Yes Review Date: 27th November, 2011 Glad to see another happy Corolla owner! Parts, if needed, are plentiful and cheap, as you can go to the local pick-n-pull and get the parts for chips. I should mention, this car, previous to myself owning it had 5 rearenders and not once was the car affected from it. Has decent pickup and will cruise at highway speeds without feeling like it's about to fall apart. Yes Review Date: 10th November, 2010. Rear seat passenger space is cramped, though, and the suspension isn't designed for a really heavy load--I've had five people in it but you have to take the speed bumps really slow. Overall, this is a great all round car, and is perfect for anything you might need it for. I have no plans to get rid of it until it is a complete death trap- lol. It gave me fair warning, and the cap never fully went, it just made starting the car on the first try difficult at times, and I had to turn the key many times to get it going eventually. General Comments: I bought this car new at Lane Toyota in Glen Waverley in late April 1996. It handles really well, and is your basic from point A to point B daily driver. It has served me faithfully over all these years with nary a complaint. Contrary to what most people think, I actually like the look of the Corolla. Model year 1996 Year of manufacture 1996 First year of ownership 2009 Most recent year of ownership 2011 Engine and transmission 1. . . . .
