I promise to buy a legitimate release of this as soon as I decide to have my next spending spree. It's also worth noting that these two stars played a major role in doing the martial arts choreography, which is consistently impressive throughout -- both in its complexity and imagination. Hau Chiu-Sing is probably my favorite drunken fighter ever in Snake in the Monkey's Shadow. Tung and his gang of kung fu fighters seek out Wei to snatch his half of the medal. Pour sauver son frère de la sentence de mort par noyade, la sœur de Chen n'a d'autre choix que d'accepter de devenir la concubine de Tuan. Wei learns after stubbornly avoiding him, that Zhou possesses the other half.
I saw a clip once on the net. After bemoaning his fate, Chan comes to the realization that his limber, hyperactive friend Little Monkey Hsiao Hou could be the perfect substitute. What's a bit funny about this fight is that it takes the combined efforts of Wei and Zhou to tackle Tung whom was also after the Monkey Fist manual. It's quite possibly the Shaw Brothers most successful attempt at capturing the independent kung fu movie style that had recently taken center stage in Hong Kong. There were a few parts in the movie where there was undercranking or something that sped up the action a bit much and as unnecessary. There's the aforementioned brothel fight, fights in the city streets, fields, back alleys and also a rather humorous fight with Lee Chun Wah, a blacksmith who refuses to remove the chain from Wei and Zhou.
The kung fu action was furious and the angles were very wide so it did not get in the way of the action. The plot, like many Shaw Brothers movies, is concerned with revenge but also tosses in several unpredictable twists and turns. Monkey confronts Tuen initially and gets beat, Miss Chen helps Monkey escape but is killed by Tuen. The soundtrack is very memorable and can be heard on numerous other kung fu and swordplay films. To read captions, hover mouse over image. In lieu of having Chan executed, his sister offers to become Duan's concubine.
This is immediately clear from his proud exhibition of technique -rather than flashy camera angles etc. He beds down a girl with a high price but then reneges on payment stating she wasn't worth the price decided beforehand. Ami miatt mégis ajánlom megnézésre az a remekül koreografált harci jelenetek, majom kung fu! Exploitation and kung fu quickie extraordinaire, Johnny Lo Mar delivers what I think is his best movie. In short, Monkey Kung Fu is fast-moving, unpretentious fun and a solid bet for kung-fu movie fans. One day, he is attacked by some extortionists and the animal is killed.
The actress playing the prostitute is incredibly flexible although I don't recall seeing her in any other films. Lau Kar-leung is arguably more well known as a director than an actor but here he takes a turn in front of the camera too. Monkey Kung Fu also benefits from strong lead performances: Tony Ching Siu-Tung shows both dazzling physical skills and natural comic timing as the neer-do-well hero and Hau Chiu Sing makes an excellent foil for him, acting as the straight man while also delivering an equal level of fight skills. Liu himself is nothing but great as the crippled Monkey Fist master, but lets the awesome acrobatic Siu Hou steal almost the whole movie with his prefect monkey impression. Ching Su Tung should have starred in more movies based on this one alone. No stranger to playing a master of Monkey Fist, Hau Chiu-Sing gives another unforgettable turn as a moody expert of the simian fighting style. But when I first saw it wide and remastered I got what Steve Martin likes to call.
An amusing bit cut from the English television prints has Wei wishing to go through their legs in the bridge position. He had an odd face, but was nonetheless a skilled fighter and displays some great technique here. Pan Media version of this a good few years back when I didn't know any better. A friend of Yuen Woo Ping's, his career was very brief. It was a jail scene I think with Rambo Kong being doubled constantly. The direction is tightly controlled to not only excite the viewer by the speed and movement but to awe her with the precise skill displayed.
The sheer amount and brilliance of the fights on display makes this a classic in my book. All in all a classic, next up The Master Strikes with Casanova Wong. Tuen, seeing that he can't win tries to escape but Monkey doesn't let him and takes his hands. At nearly two hours long, this movie stuffs in as much Monkey Fist-style martial arts as the audience can handle. The story is interesting, martial artistry pure excellence and it has the best training sequences ever captured on film! Wei is then chained to a new inmate, Zhou.
Chen a un grand défaut, il ne résiste pas à l'alcool ce qu'il le fera tomber dans un odieux piège. But at least the finale is a rousing showstopper where the villains get what they deserve. Mad Monkey Kung Fu is a 1979 Shaw Brothers kung fu film directed by Lau Kar-leung. For refusing to pay, Wei must walk out of the brothel crawling between the other girls legs. Stroke of Death is a straight up classic. Just when it looks like the stage is set for the final battle, Wei takes off to test his Monkey skills on a nearby kung fu school. At the very least, these sequences are certainly unconventional, with Hsiao Ho forced to tie rocks to his wrists and sleep in the trees like a monkey.
