The first five series of Monarch of the Glen told the story of young restaurateur, Archie MacDonald, trying to restore his childhood home in the , starring , , , and , whilst the final two series of the show focused on new Paul Bowman trying to modernise the estate, primarily starring , , , and. But a power struggle develops as Lexie takes on more of the estate's responsibilities, leaving Paul feeling increasingly side-lined. I'd watched the entire series twice at that point, and I really wanted more episodes — especially episodes that included some of the original characters I'd come to miss in the final seasons. In a desperate bid for freedom, Dorothy dashes for Molly's boat but, in her haste, only succeeds in scuttling the vessel. Molly decides she wants to take up riding again and decides to buy a horse, so Golly accompanies her to a nearby f Air Date : 30th-Nov-2003. It's worth watching for Molly's character and development alone. Paul is initially sceptical about the existence of ghosts and ghouls but, when the contents of a mysterious chest cause him to dream of his great grandfather, Bertie, he changes his mind.
When Archie hires a new cook, Lexie becomes upset and jealous, and insists on a cook-off, the dish of which is an old, relatively unknown Scottish recipe. At the end of the show, the main characters each end up with romantic partners and they take a photograph: Paul and Iona; Molly and Golly; Jess and Duncan; Ewan and Amy; Donald and a woman from the retirement home; and Kilwillie and the female minister. Hogmanay is the Scottish New Year, celebrated on December 31 every year. She's forgotten to send for the family quaich which is still in London being repaired. New barmaid, Zoe, first appears in Glenbogle, catching Ewan's eye.

While trying to carve a living out of the London restaurant he runs with his girlfriend Justine, is called back to his Highland home, to the bed of his dying father, Hector. With night drawing in and their chances of being rescued diminishing by the hour, the castaways decide to put their heads together to find a way to escape off the island.
Air Date : 26th-Oct-2003 Life at Glenbogle takes a dramatic turn as Archie finds himself faced with a life-changing decision and Molly embraces the idea of finding love again. After Duncan's relationship with Hermione self-destructs, he and Jess begin a friendship that leads to a more serious relationship, while nearly simultaneously, Molly and Golly's long friendship, dating to the earliest years of her marriage, starts taking a turn in a new direction. Unfortunately, the episode had a very strange theme and it didn't really feel like any of the other episodes. When he arrives, however, he finds that the news of his dying father was just a ploy by his dotty mother, , to get him to Scotland and tell him face-to-face that he has inherited his father's large estate and 'the big house',. The hard and stubborn Stella proves difficult to handle, though she has her eye on Archie, now unattached again, as Katrina has taken up the offer of a career in national politics since Stella's presence usurps her and Archie's plans to run the estate together.

For those who aren't familiar with it, Monarch of the Glen tells the story of Archie MacDonald, son of Hector and Molly, who returns home to the Scottish Highlands to find the family estate in financial shambles. Viewers are transported back in time as Bertie's family struggles to come to terms with his death. Hector appears as a ghost, talks to Molly and witnesses these events. In an attempt to reslove the crisis of finding Glenbogle a Head Ranger, Paul and Archie decide to give their partnership one last go. Meanwhile, Duncan and Jess skirt round the subject of their friendly kiss, with neither of them wanting to admit their true feelings for one another. Hogmanay, for those who aren't aware, is the Scottish New Year's celebration and the Scots word for the last day of the year.
Air Date : 28th-Sep-2003 The brothers MacDonald attempt to put their differences aside and Archie decides to share more responsibilites with Paul. For a long time, you could watch Monarch of the Glen on Netflix, but it recently expired and it doesn't appear to be available for streaming anywhere at the moment. Charles criticises Lexie's preparations at every turn, and is offended by the presence of a bottle of Lagganmore whisky at the celebrations - the distillery is owned by the clan MacLeish who have been feuding with the MacDonalds for almost 400 years. Lexie gets cold feet on the day of the wedding, which is postponed indefinitely. Lexie wonders whether she has what it takes to be Laird after Archie leaves Glenbogle to go mountain climbing in Nepal with his sister Lizzie in honour of their late father. His dream fails to impress Lexie who wants to stay at Glenbogle.
In terms of sequence, the special should fall at Series 5, Episode 11, and it offers extra insight into the departure of a key character. With the New Year's preparations in full swing, Golly sets the scene with a spooky story of Mad Malcolm - a ghost that haunts Glenbogle at Hogmanay. The just up from the Ardverikie Estate was used several times. He strikes a deal with Jess to help him but becomes uncomfortable after he suspects Jess holds secret feelings for him. In season 5, Badger made one uncredited appearance with no lines. In this one-off seasonal special, the family are preparing for Hogmanay when Paul opens a long-forgotten chest and discovers a strange link to his past.
When a man, suddenly turns up, Archie and his mother Molly are shocked and upset to learn that his father once had an affair, and that Paul was the child produced. Such is her enthusiasm, she hires a documentary crew to cover the event so that the visiting clan members can take away a commemorative video of their special day. It's more expensive, but of course it gives you all the episodes instead of just the Hogmanay special. Golly falls in love with new dancing teacher, , but wonders whether he is too old to have a relationship. However, she's dismayed to find she's not alone on the island. Often, minor child parts — in this case, Cameron — are played by twins to avoid overworking the children. Season six saw a big change in the cast with Steele and Clark leaving and season five regulars, and being promoted to star status.
