Approximately, one hour after closing the tailgate, the beeping alarm started going off inside the car, it beeped for nearly eight hours before I could call for service the next morning. The dealer fixed the vehicle and indicated that the latch was jammed. Finally on some of the later 123 models they used a white plastic part inside to control the door lock function. Specifically, the port side latch does not secure the hood. I am hopeful that someone out there can help me.
If not then you probably need a new latch. Sometimes the latch mechanism gets closed with the window open. There is a part inside the latch that breaks. If it catches the screwdriver then the latch needs to be adjusted closer to the hasp on the body of the car. This is another good case for lubrication.
