A sure-fire blockbuster and next in line to be re-done by Hollywood. I would say it's best to watch the picture in a mellow spiritual mood together with a loved person, if there is one. This funny comedy of vision by very simple and human extraterrestrials, but advanced in control mental, visiting on Earth. Interesting is off course also to see the director herself in the leading part. Earth is stupid and ugly and corrupt. Visually and conceptually stimulating, a more mature movie than say, Rambo. It is a story about self-realization and harmony, a message of peace and makes you rethink the way you live your life.
Written and directed by Coline Serreau, La Belle Verte stars Marion Cotillard as Mila, a 150 year old woman from a beautiful green planet inhabited by thoughtful, honest, telepathic humans who live only for the joy of being alive. You don't get so often to kiss someone passionately on a football lawn while the judge is taking a shower on the same lawn and your whole team is dancing. I had to download the English subtitles to help with all the dialogue within each scene. She seeks more information about her heritage, but instead discovers a culture locked into meaningless work, sickness and regimented hierarchy. As an audience member I laughed most in the slapstick scenes that I could relate to what the characters were arguing and struggling with in their own lives. That was precisely why I show to you my Son, great! I think it's best to watch this movie drunk or in a feminine state of mind.
Evidently genius transcends the time of mere mortals. But if you're not like this, you will just love this movie as it is pure genius. Incidentally Jesus was, of course, one of those E. What follows is absolutely shocking for this alien person as she learns that earth's inhabitants have almost no respect for nature,greenery and environment. Nobody is telling you in the film that the arts are bad. I will make sure that everyone I know will see this movie and make sure that all their friends see it too. Thus begin her adventures here with us earthlings … as she uses her special gifts things start to straighten out in an unusually funny way :.
It's of course fairy tale nonsense, and destructive to our future. About best things in life - things that are not actually 'things'. The audience at attendance doesn't know whether to have their usual game riot or dance along with the transformed players. What they note through this point of view will astonish you. This one of the most blatantly non-American fascistic movie I've seen in a long time. . I would use those words: Gaïa is there, loving us, and we are part of it, and we most be careful, because She will survive, where we couldn't.
Finally: There are very few special effects, but there are some. But it is a comedy we must assume - at least the first 30 minutes lead you to believe that. The film gets you thinking about what we value in our lives. It is a film about Values. It is highly commendable for the social comments it passes just check out the scene where Vincent Lindon accidentally scratches someone else's car's rear view mirror or when the baby doesn't exist since it doesn't have papers.
So, they are not perfect! It also has a magical effect on the viewer — an intoxicating blissful dose of hope and possibility. The main character is a Woman and she is the only volunteer of her Planet willing to travel to and sanitize and re-educate Earth which is described as the most backward, idiotic, violent Planet in the Universe. Just saw this last night. There are memorable, funny scenes in this movie and some that make you cringe. This is a very feminine movie.
Mila decides to go to Earth, a violent, dirty planet no one else wants to visit. And people don't want to know how stupid they are, how they live their lives, closed in in their comfort and habits. Almost as dull as the Eloi in Time Machine. Instead of preaching and judging us for our materialistic culture we are lightly tapped on the shoulder with comedy. Well done, really well done, every detail well cured, and thoroughly thought out. Once you watch it, you quickly realize why this film was banned and is purposely difficult to get a hold of; those in control do not want us to think and act in such ways as is reflected in this film.
