I am going to make a trip one day to visit Hachiko. As their bond grows deeper, a beautiful relationship unfolds embodying the true spirit of family and loyalty, while inspiring the hearts of an entire town. He teaches the local people love, compassion and above all unyielding loyalty. Golden Globe winner Richard Gere 2002, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Chicago stars as Professor Parker Wilson, a distinguished scholar who discovers a lost Akita puppy on his way home from work. Hachiko faithfully returns to the same spot at the station the very next day, and every day for the next nine years to wait for his beloved master.
Sadly his master departs one day, passes away and never returns to the station. Despite initial objections from Wilson's wife, Cate Academy Award nominee Joan Allen 2000, Best Actress, The Contender , Hachi endears himself into the Wilson family and grows to be Parker's loyal companion. A lot has been written on the story so I wont repeat all that. Hachiko, an Akita puppy, had been on his way to America from Japan when his journey was waylaid at a train station. And Hachiko's body has been preserved after his death and remains to this day on display in the Tokyo Museum of Nature and Science. This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station every day and return each afternoon to greet him after work.
. This is my favorite movie of all times without a doubt. I seldom post reviews online but this is one movie that I feel compelled to. They did erect a statue of Hachiko at the very station but it was melted down during World War 2 for military usage. Despite initial objections from Wilson's wife, Cate Academy Award nominee Joan Allen 2000, Best Actress, The Contender , Hachi endears himself into the Wilson family and grows to be Parker's loyal companion.
Just want to add that this is a true story and the newspaper reporter at the end of the movie did actually exist, writing up an article on Hachiko in the Japanese newspapers then. Today, a bronze statue of Hachiko sits in his waiting spot outside the Shibuya station in Japan as a permanent reminder of his devotion and love. During his daily visits, Hachiko touches the lives of many who work near and commute through the town square. This heartwarming true story is an American adaptation of a Japanese tale about a loyal dog named Hachiko. Golden Globe winner Richard Gere 2002, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Chicago stars as Professor Parker Wilson, a distinguished scholar who discovers a lost Akita puppy on his way home from work. He also is quite adamant in meeting and greeting Parker each day at the train station, waiting even when Parker cannot return. As their bond grows deeper, a beautiful relationship unfolds embodying the true spirit of family and loyalty, while inspiring the hearts of an entire town.
I have watched Hachiko close to 10 times now and every single time my tears would start flowing uncontrollably without fail. The Japanese later erected another statue in replacement after the war and today if you visit Japan, be sure to visit Hachiko's statue in Tokyo. Each time I thought to myself, yeah I have watched it before so I wont cry again but each time I still could not stop my tears. . . . .
