At its best, it's a move that endows these characters with something to push against if they want to become anything like the characters we knew and remembered. Someone hacks the Logicomas, and Batou enlists the help of former army intelligence officer Ishikawa and former air artillery expert Borma.
Borma is still blank faced and no personality. More so however is the fact that there is how Major handles her tasks. We wonder what it will cost them to finally arrive, to become those people and fulfill our expectations. It's more akin to a jazz standard, where each successive creative team takes the core material and riffs on it in such a way that the finished product only suggests the original. But Kusanagi's trail also leads back to signs of tampering with Kusanagi's own memories — including her memories of the very man she idolized. The show has no trouble deciding how it wants to look, at least. The Ghost in the Shell is one such franchise that has revolutionized itself and became an epitome of what cyberpunk is. Although the intro once again is styled like a sitcom opening like last time which was funny. Ghost Whispers is even more bombastic, colorful, and stylish than the first Arise episode, and much more so than the somewhat similar Stand Alone Complex.
Saito was crap in this film, for some reason he is a moneygrabbing Mr. Because most of the characters looks intimating or equipped with a sense of high tech prowess, their voices needs to give them a strong outlook of firmness. Worse, Kusanagi herself has been framed for apparent complicity in some of his actions. It involves optical illusions you will find yourself captivated during the final climax of the film. The story had some strong elements of the puppet master woven in, with issues such as self awareness and false memory being important and reoccurring the course of the story. I personally like it less, but if you're a fan of fluid fights withs extremely stylized action sequences, this one is for you. I hope this conceit is explored a little more thoroughly for its psychological implications in future installments, because here it's mostly used as a plot element and not as a character trait.

Action wise, the movie does a solid job to maintain its style. Furthermore, the revelation might be somewhat predictable that sheds out an intriguing suspense formula. Overall this episode was beautiful to look at, but stands alone in style, even compared to the first Arise episode. The music really felt like part of the movie rather than an addition to the movie and helped create a holistic feel. This leads to a shooting incident involving riot police. A good understanding of how this universe works is a prerequisite to being able to enjoy this particular story. But it's too easy to get used to the idea that any particular franchise — or genre, or medium of expression — will automatically push boundaries by mere dint of being continued.

More importantly is the way characters are portrayed that gives them the impressions of who they are. It's not that Arise itself suffers from this, its just that this particular Arise episode suffers from it, which is disappointing. The Section 9 team is an iconic, serious, and interesting team in Stand Alone Complex, and the premise of the Arise series would imply it puts a focus on these guys.
This incarnation of the character is more waifish, a little more temperamental than we remember her. . Meanwhile, Togusa investigates a murder of a man who possessed a prosthetic leg manufactured by the Mermaid's Leg corporation. I'm happy with the sound track. The real threat concerns of a new enemy with advanced hacking skills that endangers the state. The door's been left open for how that can be improved in future installments, of which two more are on the way as of this writing. Batou is still Batou basically, despite him being featured as a secondary antagonist in this episode we didn't see much about his character.
G, who gave us Stand Alone Complex, are in fine form here, with a sleek blend of hand-drawn and digitally-created imagery filling each shot. The makers should either rebuild and expand this into a proper film or follow-up with another short film that fills in the gaps and then combine the 2. The only thing that kept from being court-martialed was encountering an untimely bullet in an alley. Freed of her responsibilities with the 501 Organization, Motoko Kusanagi must now learn how to take orders from Aramaki. There are still 2 more projects from this franchise.
