And I do not want to change the way all windows work I know there is a system setting to make all new windows open in a new window; I don't. Then exit Excel and see if that helps. I had the same issue. A shortcut to an Excel spreadsheet opens it as a window. Try to research your issue before posting, don't be vague.
I can edit or work with the file to some extent that I can recall keyboard commands since I cannot see or access the ribbon or menus. They click on an excel file local or shared drive and Excel Opens to gray screen. After hitting enter the Immediate window stayed open so I assume that's what it should do. This problem seems to have started when I started using multible screens about a year ago. Finally, I solved the problem. Try this: put the password back on the workbook open the file enter the password resize the window to be as big as you can by dragging the edges do not use the maximize button close the excel app anyway you wish now open it again - it will not be maximized, but maybe it will be close enough. I had the same problem.
I know there aren't dialog boxes stuck or anything because it prompts to save the workbooks and the closes properly. The subreddit is only for support with tech issues. Opening a brand new workbook works just fine - the issue only affects ones already created and saved. I have a hyper link to an Excel file on my webpage. This can be done for any application such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook etc. Under the Shortcut tab change the dropdown next to Run to Maximized.
When we had both excel 2003 and 2007 installed on the same computer, we could open the excel 2003 files right away but not the 2007 files. It's Excel itself that isn't maximized. It will expand to full screen on clicking the maximize icon. I have tried going through properties and checked the option to open in Maximized window and it does not work. Please be as specific as possible. This sounds similar to an issue we were having. Right-clicking and closing all the workbooks is the only way to resolve the issue.
If the window is too big you can also use Alt + spacebar, then S to resize the left side of the window. They do not solve the problem. Some E-mails I send with attached files get returned saying there is no file. This might have happened by an unusual program glitch that set and saved operating data, or the boundaries of the document window were set outside of the screen's range in a previous session and got saved. All we had to do was to minimize excel 2007 and it would pop right back up with the file we had just tried to open. My initial impression is that it's a display issue. Tried all restore pts only have a few since have only had computer 5 days , but didn't help anything. We have migrated those users now to only 2007 so the issue no longer happens.
