This is far for accurate, as it is less likely to give a false reading. That goes for all fluids in my opinion. This location will give you the temp of the fluid coming out of the converter and will be the hottest temp you will see from the trans while in the fluid coupling mode converter clutch unlocked. They all use three planetary gearsets, three driving clutches, three holding clutches, and an overrunning clutch. Normal temps of the transmission fluid will fall in the area of about 100 to 280° F depending on where you check it. Thanks for the help guys.
Well at 80k miles you have to be honest with yourself and assume a rebuild for this transmission isn't out of the question. It used a computer that did not allow retrofits into earlier trucks. The Getrag six speed manual available on these trucks had a 5. This servo is also larger in apply area - over 20% larger than the factory. If your changing fluid, it must be 25,000 miles.
Double Deep Pan: holds approximately 18 ½ to 19 Quarts. Do you know the converter stall speed? The fluid at any of these test ports is stagnant oil, once the oil gets to the test port it is at a dead end and is no longer circulating. Local shops such as myself will stay far ahead on sevice proceedures that a dealer will ever. I'm glad I did it. Remove the drain bolt from the bottom of the transmission pan and allow the fluid to drain. Automatic headlights are those that will automatically come on when you start the car and should sense the ambient outdoor light and decide whether or not to go to full power mode. My truck is sitting around 80k miles with limited modifications for performance.
Let me know what you all think and if you can point me in the direction of other topics here to research that would be great. With now having a more apply pressure on the band, we must correct our issue with the factory band strut, as well. I thought about changing the filter after the flush also, but even after talking my previous transmision builder he does not change the filter twice, so I'm going to wait for a month to replenish my truck maintenance fund, then do it, maybe? I'm more about the science. I just went through all those questions a week ago when I changed mine. I experiment on my own vehicles but do not endorse the modifications that I make to my vehicles to be used on others.
My truck has a sealed tranny, no dip stick. Lots of metal stuck to the magnetic drain bolt. Some fast-lube centers offer this approach. So, you have pricing leverage at the least. I'm on a budget now. In full disclosure, I liked how it shifted so much after I altered the tables that I decided other folks would like it too and I have built a small business offering engine and transmission tuning which so far has had no unhappy customers! Relace the cooler line and top off and its flushed.
I have 56k and it was flushed at 30k so I was just going to drop the pan and change the filters since it wasn't done during the flush. Since I'm starting from zero I believe the expense will be justified assuming the top shelf fluids are truly better and not just a promotional stunt. The transmission kit also included a remote mount transmission filter that must be installed with the new transmission. I own a 98 ram and use it as a hunting truck and mostly offhighway venihclebut take care of it and don't rag on it, but I'm still on my 4th transmission. Fill the trans after the filter has been changed, fill with 6 quarts, during the flush you will put is 10 more as 10 runs out. There is something to be said for a shop that can test a transmission not in a running vehicle and testing components individually.
Before you start the truck, then start the truck and add 7 to 8 more Qts. Gm did the same thing when they went to Dex 5, its also a synthetic. At one of these locations we will really be reading the temp of the transmission case. When you change your transmission fluid, always use the recommended listed in the manual fluid. Your custom converter will help tremendously, too. We also offer a variety of additional upgrades to these, as well.
During limp mode, the manual valve provides reverse, neutral, and fourth gear. The swap is pretty straightforward and can be done without a lift. I could understand it, as I know that chrysler wanted +4 in their stuff. Above I stated that governor pressure and throttle valve pressure are metered. The 48re valve body was designed with simple safeguards that basically won't allow it to apply a dangerous combination of clutches and or bands. Fluid at 230° does not hurt the seals, gaskets, or clutches, but, because it is so thin it is hard for the pump to maintain enough flow so the valve body can maintain enough pressure in all the circuits. This is now an industry standard, as heat destroys automatic transmissions.
If the trans temp gets above 200° F we would want to get the engine rpm above 1500, I will explain why. Install different pedal carrier and pedals, install clutch linkage your gonna love this i just had this problem at my shop it is inside the tranny connected to the mail harness. Both shift bands should be torqued with each fluid change as well---this will minimize wear in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Do not use Dexron or Mercon. When the lock up occurs you would see an immediate drop in fluid temp of about 20° F. Does this get half of the oil or less? The truck just celebrated its tenth birthday.
