Hi, Not sure if this problem has been solved, but we are still having the same problem as shown below. First turn off Time Machine, even if you no longer use it or never did, just make sure. I cleaned up disc space following the steps listed, and am still receiving the same error message of not have enough disc space to install the update. I've screwed many disks, but I only lost information once because dd didn't copy the disk properly but didnt throw a warning. Also, you may want to check the Perform a quick format option, which should speed up the formatting process considerably.
