. She will remain in the light, but only if she does not remain in love with Ethan. When he meets Lena Duchannes, a newcomer who has just enrolled in his school, Ethan knows she is the girl in his dreams. Later, we walked out of the theater and we had a good time. To make matters worse, her evil mother, Sarafine, is casting spells to push Lena to the dark side.
Overall, I have yet to read the book it was based on and I understood all the hatred this flick had, but despite it's own problems, Beautiful Creatures is a pretty good fantasy romance flick that is way better than the Twilight movies and I think would be recommended to those who haven't seen it yet. Lena reveals to her new boyfriend that she is a witch, and that on her sixteenth birthday she will be claimed by either the forces of light or of darkness. It's not spectacular, though for there are some problems that I do have with the film. Storyline: Teenager Ethan Wate is obsessed with his urge to finish high school and go on to college in order to leave the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina behind, until a mysterious girl begins to inhabit his dreams. Written by My brother and I went to see this in theaters by using our birthday gift our grandmother had given us with much expectations. Flaws aside, this film does have some good qualities.
When he meets Lena Duchannes, a newcomer who has just enrolled in his school, Ethan knows she is the girl in his dreams. Lena is rejected by the rest of her classmates for being the niece of Macon Ravenwood, whom the town's superstitious residents consider to be a devil-worshiper. The direction is above-decent and the music score is surprisingly good. It became quite predictable by using some of the same clichés that we've already seen before like in Twilight, but it got me interested especially towards the end of this flick. But Ethan gives her a ride anyway and they fall in love. To make matters worse, her evil mother, Sarafine, is casting spells to push Lena to the dark side.
Ethan joins her in a search to find a magic spell to save their doomed love. But Ethan gives her a ride anyway and they fall in love. Alden Enrenreich did an amazing job as the charismatic Ethan Wate while Alice Englert is a perfect Lena Duchannes, thus making them a much likable duo than Bella and Edward from Twilight. Ethan joins her in a search to find a magic spell to save their doomed love. Lena is rejected by the rest of her classmates for being the granddaughter of Macon Ravenwood, whom the town's superstitious residents consider to be a devil-worshiper.

Emma Thompson as Serafine sometimes overacts, but by golly was she enjoyable; Emmy Rossum did a nice job as the foxy Ridley, Viola Davis did very good as Amma and Jeremy Irons the famous actor from The Lion King, Eragon, etc. Lena is rejected by the rest of her classmates for being the niece of Macon Ravenwood, whom the town's superstitious residents consider to be a devil-worshiper. There are some times where the exposition throughout the film is a bit too much for my tastes. The dialog is pretty smart and mixes melodrama and campy humor pretty well throughout the film. Even though the professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it mixed feelings, I thought this is a pretty good film. To make matters worse, her evil mother, Sarafine, is casting spells to push Lena to the dark side. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town. The cinematography is brilliant and the scenery of South Carolina is beautiful to look at. The best part, however, would have to go to the cast.
The special effects are pretty good too and the golden eyes effect is the perfect highlight. However, the best characters would have to go to the two main protagonists.
