Bad Grandpa however does have its moments. I went to see it with very, very low expectations, after reading a negative review of it, and ended up enjoying quite a bit of it. Embarrassed, they leave and later play some basketball while Billy asks Irving if he can take him fishing. He takes him to the post office, but since Billy keeps moving and speaking, both women in the post office open it and are shocked to find him inside. That is when he gets himself stuck and starts asking onlookers for help. I even ended up feeling for De Niro's character - hey, it's his last stand after all. Along the way, they encounter all kinds of people and get into all kinds of trouble. Irving asks him to make sure that Billy is taken care of, though he rudely responds to Irving that he will get the job done.
Maybe many people aren't used to seeing De Niro in such a role, but hey, he's done other silly comedies already. Irving drives away, but immediately starts to miss Billy. Chuck turns out to be a deadbeat who refuses to take Billy in as he is unable to afford to do so. Not all the jokes are that great, but it was good fun nevertheless. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants and their equally disgruntled mothers , funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons, and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens. They pull Ellie's corpse out of the trunk since Irving thinks it would be disrespectful to leave it in the car.
He goes to another strip club and then to an adult book store. He tries to hit on her while Billy goes on a ride outside the shop. Lady: I'm sorry to hear that. He tells Irving that it is not working, forcing Irving to test it out, only to end up getting blasted through the window when the ride springs off its base. I think he was sent from heaven. The two pull into a motel for the day. Irving calls Billy to him, but Chuck prepares to fight him.
Meanwhile, Billy leaves the car to explore and stops an older gentlemen to get him to tie his shoelaces. When the men start to dance, Irving jumps on the dance floor and pulls down his pants. As he starts giving a speech, Billy and his mother Kimmie barge in and Kimmie pulls Irving outside to speak with him. Irving goes to a club featuring male performers, and tells one of the dancers that he plans on waiting until the women are so aroused by the dancers for him to swoop in and make his move. Eventually, Tremaine and Knoxville came up with a story to structure the pranks around. Another comedy film whose comedy moments are surplus to the story it is telling is Ted but with Ted the characters were likable and enjoyable. Irving is a difficult man to like or enjoy being in his company.
Unfortunately that show appears to have run out of steam and this branch off movie isn't good enough to carry the Jackass name.
