I haven't gotten any messages in any way that there has been any updates. See the mail shield server settings within Avast! But I also don't agree its implementation should be platform agnostic. It's one hand washing the other sort of thing. I believe this is actually a firefox issue and how it accesses certificates on the mac. But Vladimyr is right, you should disable that in Thunderbird, So Avast can start scanning your mail.
