That car should have a different tensioner than the jetta. I say No problem but the cars alternator is dead. Lastly, take a look at the bottom of the radiator. And then tapper down after awhile. I might not be able to get the fan off, then I might not be able to get the belt back on, then I might have to strip the front end down, and I'll have to get it done in one sitting because it's on the drive. Pretty clear the alternator failed shorted out.

The bolt is long enough that you must remove the fan clutch and its pulley in order to pull the bolt all the way out. Pull out the alternator 8. My guess is one is faulty and running at an angle. I suggest you take the battery terminal off so you dont have sparks if you short the alternator. I want to send my alternator out for Rebuilt. I guess theres some gaps in my electrical theory education. I dont know if its a 5 or 2 valve but I will investigate.

A rebuilt alternator usually means the bearings rectifier I say No problem but the cars alternator is dead. When yo first put the meter on a full charged battery it should read between 13-15 volts.
