So, indirectly, the above instructions led to a true fix, which was actually an initially faulty touchpad driver configuration, now corrected. I pulled the laptop apart the other day to clean out the fans from dust. I restarted it and the touchpad work! Once in settings, click devices, then touchpad. It sounds like your mouse settings are not the same as mine if you don't see this option. I'll include screenshots to help in the translation. Download your touchpad driver by your laptop brand name and model no. My laptop is a tool. The thing that ticks me off sometimes is that these people blame the hardware instead of their bad posture. Getting drivers from other locations your on your own and you should know what your doing specifically or bad things can happen. It seems like it is built in to the driver for the touchpad because otherwise the gestures would not work in the first place.
I just found that if I use the fn and f5 buttons on my laptop it stops the touchpad. I'm seriously all for the support and discussions within forums to help others with their problems, but seriously? It's like holding a phone upside down and then complain that the phone was built upside down so they couldn't hear what the other person was saying. While its booting up it works then goes away after everything is loaded.
