Love Finds You In Sugarcreek, Ohio is a natural outgrowth of my on-going fascination with these valiant, flawed people who struggle to live their lives according to their interpretation of the Bible. We begin in Afghanistan with Grace Connor, a Nurse Practitioner, and was beginning to wonder what the Military had to do with an Amish Story. Grace Connor, a military nurse is debating whether to reenlist for another tour of duty when she gets an email from her seventeen year old sister Becky stating that she needs help with their grandmother Elizabeth back home in Ohio. I read another book by Serena Miller that was not Amish fiction and I absolutely loved it, so I had a pretty good idea that I would like An Uncommon Grace. There are so many things about this book and discussions that it awakens that I could go on for pages and paragraphs. The main storyline, Amish person falling in love with a non-Amish person, has been a little overdone, but I thought it was very well written.
Grace Connor and Levi Troyer had an attraction to one another soon after they first met. She helped Levi and his family several times with medical needs. . He has considered leaving, but knows he will be banned forever from having contact with his younger siblings and widowed mother—who need him to survive. I thought this would be just another Amish romance - you know the kind: a little bit soppy, some flowery language, cultural references that may be way off mark, but underpinned by a sweet story. In the scene where she is rocking the baby on the porch, pictured above, the mother is resting inside.
Her first published novel, Love Finds You In Sugarcreek, Ohio Summerside Press , was made into a movie in 2014 for the Uplifting Network. I rate this novel a perfect 5 out of 5 stars and now I sit on pins and needles waiting for the next book to come out by Serena that will once more captivate the readers so much that they will not be able to put it down until they turn that final page. Stars Jes Macallan, Sean Faris and Kelly McGillis. I loved the characters in An Uncommon Grace! The father is killed and wife who is pregnant is injured and the baby survives yet needs close medical care. For those who are fans of Amish mysteries by author Mindy Starns Clark, I can heartily recommend that you give Serena's latest book a try.

I for one couldn't put this story down, and because of this story found myself researching the Swartzentruber Amish. Upon opening her email, she sees an email message telling her that she is needed to come home and that her grandmother Elizabeth has had a heart attack. As a military nurse she has seen horrors indescribable. I enjoyed reading this story very much. I have been reading a bit of Amish fiction lately, and I was slightly put off by the circa ten dollar price tag of this book.

I would say if your tired of reading the same old stories in Amish fiction then your going to want to read this one because the author provides a fresh, realistic perspective on the Amish storyline! I longed for Levi to recognize his district's flawed teachings, as well as the ability to escape those who would sabotage his reputation. This sect of Amish is so strict that that Claire is forbidden to have a relationship with her sister Rose, who has joined the Old Order Amish. There are only two requisite cheesy 'romance novel' moments in the book, and as the 'cheese' factor goes, they were really light on. Miller and it was another great read! Levi Troyer finds his pacifist beliefs challenged when he discovers his stepfather has been killed and his mother wounded by an unknown intruder. When reading this type of book, like all romances, things got rather predictable and I kind of did see the end coming but the characters themselves were very interesting.
When he comes to the home of Claire he is very week and soon collapses and Grace comes to help. Blending war with peace, murder and mystery with romance, and more. I found it very interesting to learn more about the Swartzenruber Amish, a sect not often written about in Amish fiction.

All were great Amish mysteries! I am now reading the third book in this group and love meeting so many of the same characters that have grown.
This book explores the life and culture of the Swartzentruber Amish--an ultra-conservative sect that many readers, including myself, have never heard Historical fiction and Amish fiction are my go-to genres all day, every day. When she opens the door, Levi tells her what has happened and she immediately grabs her medical bag and drives over to his home. Levi must confront the Bann if he pursues Grace. Levi comes home to find his stepfather dead on the floor and his Mother who is heavily pregnant also shot and bleeding but alive. She has a writing style that agrees with and appeals to me on so many levels. I Loved how God's hand is in the lives of these people, his Children. Grace's life has been filled with everything that is the opposite of the quiet, pacifist Amish life.
