This animal-centric kids' film is loosely based on the Noah's Ark story, though it's from the animals' perspective and has almost no mention of Noah or religion. Until the curious kids fall off the Ark. Leah and Finn manage to climb on a piece of floating ice when the water engulfs the mountain. On the deck of the ark the lion captain and his flamingo assistant discuss whether they should have told Dave and Finny in the beginning they were sea creatures. But it takes more than that to dissuade a Nestrian. What stood out the most for me was the surprise reveal near the end.
I really enjoyed this movie and so did my daughter 7 , nephews 5 and 9. A character is knocked unconscious, then is creepily manipulated like a marionette. When the ark passes their little iceberg, it turns out to be hard to climb on. Based on actual incidents in the life of veterinarian James Herriot, the film provides excellent family entertainment and is wonderfully acted by Hopkins. When Dave tries to save Finny from drowning in the water the plot twist is revealed: Nestrians are really water creatures, perfecly able to breathe and swim while submerged.
The creatures were believable and the story well told. Do you think it's a funny name? Noah was never seen but his name was mentioned. Finny first manages to climb on the ark but does not want to leave Leah behind and jumps back on the iceberg. Basically a Noah's Ark animated story. Enjoy the kid friendly, lessons to learn movie! Luckily for Dave and his son Finny, a couple of clumsy Nestrians, an Ark has been built to save all animals.
In the final scenes Dave and Finny swim alongside the ark, waving at leah and Hazel. Their curiosity having gotten the better of them, they were on the scaffolding as the tidal wave hit the boat it sailed away. Leah, who is a born hunter and survivor is burdened with the clumsy and awkward Finny, but somehow they manage to escape from the rising water and the greedy and gruesome Griffins. It's definitely not going to be smooth sailing. Now Finny and Leah struggle to survive the flood and hungry predators and attempt to reach the top of a mountain, while Dave and Hazel must put aside their differences, turn the Ark around and save their kids.
Finding his footing, surrounded by his new group of friends, Finny starts to emerge as the brave hero that he really is. I don't usually watch dubbed foreign animation, but something about this film appealed to me, not to mention I had a free morning and money to spare, so I went to see it. This is such a cute movie. Luckily for Dave and his son Finny, an Ark has been built to save all animals. It starts in Genesis 6. I won't spoil anything for anyone, but I will say I was genuinely impressed.
I love how they spun the story of the Ark from the animals point of view, it really worked without being offensive. Some movies like All Creatures Big and Small: The Croods 2013 , Madagascar 2005 , Clifford's Really Big Movie 2004 , The Fox and the Hound 2 2006 , Tarzan 2 2005. No one actually dies in the film. Many of the characters are unlikable such as the Grymps , and the likable ones are so one-dimensional they get old fast such as Finny. Until the curious kids fall off the Ark.
It has a great ending, I found it humorous. It kept her interest and didn't scare her! All animals in the movie. It's definitely not going to be smooth sailing. Meanwhile their parents must get over their differences to work together, fight their way through gorilla guards and the vain and ruthless Lion to take control of the ark and save their children. Also, Noah is only mentioned; not seen. With the help of friends big and small, Dave must turn the Ark around to save his son in this heartwarming adventure of biblical proportions.
Fart and poop jokes are prevalent, including the detail that some characters fart a dark gas when nervous. Until the curious kids fall off the Ark. But as it turns out, Nestrians aren';t allowed. It was actually quite clever, and not something I saw coming. This is a beautiful, well written animated movie. The graphics and storyline are great.
