And yes indeed, I also have been reading and rereading All Creatures Great and Small, as well as the rest of James Herriot's veterinarian memoirs repeatedly and almost religiously over the past decades at least twenty times, I think, and that is actually a more than conservative estimate at best, as sometimes, I would actually reread All Creatures Great and Small as soon as I had finished. I had the wonderful experience of listening to the audio book, read by the actor who plays Herriot in the old television series. Herriott affectionately sketches the old Yorkshire personalities so well, and his love for animals shines through on the pages. We place adoptable animals in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a new pet into their homes and lives.
The very definition of a comfort book. It has been a healing journey reading this and has helped me become more patient, and hopefully better to be around. This film isn't exactly an epic tale, but it has its moments. Having said that, you should give this movie a chance. It's good for a rental. His doubts about his early abilities, his probably bi-polar boss, and the antics of the boss' brother and the other citizens provide a lot of comic relief. You have learn to grieve for the ones you lose but keep fighting the good fight. In his books, Wight calls the town where he lives and works Darrowby, which he based largely on the towns of Thirsk and Sowerby. I found this movie to be enjoyable but nothing special. And when the pig Nugent comes along, there is much hilarity. And my younger brother 6 years old didn't loose focus from it as he usually does when he watches movies, he really loves this one.

The many farm animals he treated in addition to a few dogs were funny as well as heartw I'm so glad to have discovered this classic on audio from OverDrive because its size may have scared me off otherwise. What makes his memoirs truly remarkable are the vivid pictures he paints of the Yorkshire Dales, his self-depracation and the evident love and respect he has for the colourful cast of characters - the eccentric Farnons, his sensible wife Helen, the hilarious Granville Bennet, the resolute farmers and his patients. We me I've read this book so many times over the years, yet every single time I get to the last word on the last page I am ready to go back to chapter one and start all over. Probably shouldn't have put that in print. The animation was sub-par for a professional film, this looks and feels like a student film, a halfway decent student film but a student film none the less. I devoured books about space travel, including the movie novelization of Space Camp and a Choose Your Own Adventure book about traveling to Jupiter.

When I first read it them as I read Herriot's vet stories one book after another I would read them late at night in bed after my wife had gone to sleep. He manages to imbue every chapter with scenes that are laugh out loud funny, but also scenes that will bring tears to your eyes. Word begins to spread that a huge flood is coming, so Nestrians Dave and his son Finny head to the ark to be saved with the other animals.
