But before getting into the odds of that happening, a bit of background about the show. So while Netflix hasn't made any announcement about a second season of A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities, fans can rest assured that there's 20 episodes to burn through. A Taiwanese Tale Of Two Cities sounds like the title suggests, with two women longing for new lives on the other side of the world, with some Dickens quotes thrown in. I just love how the writers depicted the culture shock and cultural differences of both cities. Jo decides to stay in Taipei to get out from under the thumb of her family, while she encourages Nien-Nien to go to San Francisco and confront her fiance, who has decided to stay longer without consulting her.
His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Slate, Salon, VanityFair. Photo: Netflix Sex and Skin: As we mentioned, Jo has sex with an on-again, off-again suitor; she even takes her bra off, revealing an interesting tattoo on her lower back. What we hope is that we still see Chen and Tseng together, because they scenes they were both in during the first episode were some of the best of the show. When they finally arrive in these cities, they realize they are different from what they imagined them to be. The drama was by no means perfect though. The interactions stirs up the long-lost memories in my heart.
It had a rocky start that was almost cringeworthy. The other girl always wanted to visit Taipei to get in touch with her roots and Taiwanese identity. While the main cast did a solid acting job, some of the supporting actors were a little awkward. One girl dreams of visiting San Francisco since she was a child. And although the title would suggest otherwise, the 20-episode series doesn't appear to be a twist on the classic Charles Dickens novel. Explain the different perspectives of the Chinese nation in Taiwan and abroad through the two cities.
The two of them meet and hit it off. And if the teasers are any indication, the series promises to be a cheesy, heartfelt, globe-trotting saga that rom-com aficionados can get behind. But those quibbles are just that; this show is fun to watch because of its sweet, lightly funny tone, and the charm of the two leads, Chen and Tseng. The problem is, she's never been to Taipei before, and it shows. Jo quits her job and travels to Taipei for the contest, and Nien-Nien is representing the host city there.
It was a slow paced drama that would skip around a lot and use a substantial amount of flashback scenes as fillers. Stories where people long to be on the other side of the world still charm viewers, despite the fact that technology and inexpensive air travel has shrunken the world for many. Most immigrants from Taiwan to the United States should be able to understand the meaning of loss by immigration and share the feeling of the cultural revival. I loved this drama for the cultural representation, but the plot however, was somewhat of a downer. So who are these two women? Just finished watching it on Netflix last weekend. There were also a lot of pointless scenes that made me cringe.

Although the two women are soon fish out of water in these unfamiliar cities, they each appear to find love interests, who help show them the cultural ropes. Nien-Nien also hits it off with a Taiwanese-American chef named Ryan Denny Huang. Speaking of San Francisco, Josephine Huang — the other main character in A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities — grew up there. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Josephine Huang Peggy Tseng is a software engineer who hates working for idiots, and is always under scrutiny from her mother and all of her relatives. Its earnest storytelling and kindhearted characters sounds like a recipe for success, but it's too soon to tell whether is in the books.
Film in the Republic of China Wenhua Bu subsidies, across the Pacific two cities: San Francisco and Taipei, Taiwan girls have never been to the United States pursue love, and born and grew up in the United States back to Taiwan Chinese girl the roots of the story. The connections between this story and the classic Charles Dickens novel are tentative at most; a few choice quotes that are read or displayed on screen. A Taiwanese Tale Of Two Cities is harmless fun, with two charming leads. . This is a testament to how great stories travel.
This was a heartfelt story about two different girls who experience two different cultures. Nien-Nien lives in Taipei and grew up with her father and step-mom. Rather, it's the story of two women — one in Taipei and one in San Francisco — who switch places. I particularly loved how they portrayed Jo's internal struggle of being a Taiwanese American and having to juggle between two identities. Her parents emigrated to the coastal city after graduating from university in Taipei.
