The old style thermal has two wires coming out of it. When i got home i needed my own driveway plowed. I checked it out and adjusted linkage etc, checked wiring for breaks as best I could, found no power to electric actuator on front axle. It is built to work just like the original part. When shifted out of 4wd, the switch opens up and no voltage goes to the actuator. Something does not add up, nothing happens! Is it an easy fix for a novice? Underneath the car attached to the drivetrain, they are subject to extreme temperature change as well as physical damage from dirt, debris, rocks, etc.

If the four wheel drive worked when you broke the front axle , then you may have screwed up when putting the new axle in.
If i can't get the new style to work in any way then I'll just redo this method. The wire colors at the actuator should be light blue, and black, is that correct? When you are in 2wd sitting at a stop, in park or neutral, and you press four high, do you hear anything, and does the light continuously flash or revert back to 2wd. Attach test light between Light Blue wire terminal and Black wire terminal of connected front axle solenoid. These are very easy to change - just thread out the old one, and thread in a new one. I can get another plug if need be but it looked like I could take the pins out of the current one and replace. Replacing the actuator itself took about 10 minutes. With a 1-year, unlimited mileage warranty, this part is highly reliable. Remove T-case 20 amp fuse. I can put a jumper in where the fuse goes and the front axle will lock in to get me out of a jam, but the jumper gets red hot and must be removed right away. The transfer case was rebuilt about 100,000 miles ago. The part is fully operational and my 4x4 is back in perfect working order. Its a 25A fuse, I tryed a 30 and it popped right away too. If you do have power at the actuator, the the actuator itself is most likely bad.

Yea, i thought i had the issue covered but spent all of last winter engaging the front diff via a spacer i had to take in and out manually everytime i wanted to take the truck in and out of four wheel drive! Wire 50 brown is the 12v feed, and it conducts to the light blue wire 900 to the actuator. A couple of days ago I did exactly the same thing and it didnt want to start again sounded like it wanted to but didnt I pulled the fuel pump fuse and reinstalled it and all was well again. ?? If the lines are good then it could be your actuator on the front axle. Could a bad tps be dumping more fuel making it appear to be regualotr related? It is down on the front axle on the passenger side. Also a fuse should be ruled out since Im getting 12volts out of the actuator plug, correct? They are not flashing any codes it is just a constant flash. The new actuatore is supposed to be all electrical.
Put the shifter in 4wd, can you spin the front driveshaft by hand? This has solved the cold temperature problem. The light on the 4 high and 4 low would just flash. The transfer case would need tobe removed from the trans in order to complete the rebuilding procedure. On the diff side the plug has 5 wires coming out of it but doesn't have long enough wires to splice into as they were cut by that previous garage I mentioned and the other wires look kinda screwed up as well. What are the wire colors that go o the other item that you are speaking of. There is a bulletin, and a revised schematic, if the new style front axle actuator has been installed.
If not you probably installed something incorrectly while the axle was removed. Does anyone have a diagram of what each pin does? I have a 1993 chevy K1500 pick up. Could it also be cold weather I mean I live in ontario right now its about -13 could that be why the mileage is so terrible? Problem is that i have no idea where to locate it.
If so, repair open in Brown wire between convenience center and transfer case switch. Figuring out what's been chopped up and why will take more brain effort than fixing it most likely. The way this actuator works, is it is a sealed chamber that gets heated by voltage. If so, proceed to next step. It was dead I could not get it to do anything.
It's common to happen and the fork that engages the 4X4 in the differential is still locked up or partially locked up. Sometimes these actuator just plain don't work in extreme cold weather as the gas actually does not get hot enough to expand. Cheers, When I press the 4wdh or 4wdL I can hear and feel the transfer shift. I will try to jump the switch's wire togeather tomorrow night and see if the lights quits flashing. The wires both look black or dark blue to me I could not tell, But there is not a light blue wire. When I switch to 4wdh the 4wdh light flashes and only that light.
