Time, road vibrations and spring pressure causes the contacts on the bulbs to wear until they get a poor connection then you get a little arcing that build up a residue and a bulb that test good doesn't work. Posted on Aug 19, 2009 Vehicle electric trouble shooting is the worst. I just put in a new switch and that was a waste of 50 bucks. It may sound silly but change the bulbs. The harness that I'm asking about is in the same spot, but the trailer wiring harness is there as well. No one has been able to help me though.
Try a test lamp with a good gound connection and test the different sockets, if your test light works but your bulb doesn't you have a ground fault. If I'm in the wrong section mods please let me know! Actually, I just looked a little closer at one of the pictures I'd seen online. I'm not sure what the harness I was asking about is then. My Chevy has all the features of the tow package, including the chrome grille, trailer brake, pre-installed hitch, etc. Get a couple of new bulbs and try them in the different spots. Why put a wire that goes nowhere and does nothing which is what I'm being told.
Jun 13, 2010 the wiring is pretty staright forward. Does anyone know what else it could be? I've been to several auto parts stores, looking online, and a few dealers parts departments trying to find the correct harness. It has the tow package. These are just general trouble shooting tips It's very hard to trouble shoot electrical problems sight unseen. Searching online by this part , I've found a lot of Delphi connectors, not one of which look the same as this. I already ran the wires in the cab. Some of the problems you described the bulbs may have multiple filiments with only some burned out.
I'm trying to wire up the towing harness for my 2014 Chevy Express. If neither work check the switch and fuse before you start tracing the wiring. I recently purchased tow mirrors and installed them. Says its mounted near the center of the bumper. So I still know nothing. I've found a wiring harness that has the wiring for the trailer.
Thanks for your help though. No one has seen or heard of this. Review this information, maybe I need two or more post to send you the Wiring Diagrams. I'll get out there and look for the harness that you pointed out in your second post, and see if I have any better luck with that. Your on the right track with the ground wire. The problem that I'm having is finding the harness that plugs into this, I'd much rather plug into a factory harness than start splicing into the wiring. So it looks like I'm totally missing the trailer wiring harness.
I just put in a new switch and that was a waste of 50 bucks. I've attached a picture to illustrate what I mean. It didn't come with the factory tow package. Even if it doesn't have brake wire, you should still be able to install adapter at rear, for lights etc. If it does, you usually just pop fuse in under hood for electric brakes, and harness to adapt into is usually near or at rear bumper.
I absolutely love the truck, it's great, and other Chevy owners seem super nice so far! Does Anyone have advice for running these wires and where I can tap into?. Does anyone know what else it could be? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I guess I'll have to take a multimeter to it to find out if it is or not. . . .
