I use my Garmin or phone nav often even in the local area since I have no sense of direction and am not familiar with some of the nearby cities. The 2011 Toyota Corolla comes well equipped, even in base form. This problem is made worse by the , which means that I either have to stop the car or struggle to get the system to understand me. Very sad because the mechanically the vehicle is excellent. Just started this about two weeks when tried to change stations on the radio.

I obviously did the customer survey too soon! But there are some nuisances with the new nav system, too. There is a lag from when you make any input until it reacts, and in this age, that is inexcusable. Compared to most other models in this class like the Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, or Honda Civic , the Corolla feels slightly down on power—especially at highway speeds. The one area where the Corolla is a standout, however, is in interior quietness and refinement. I have a 2015 Venza and do find the map is significantly outdated. Have to stop, turn the car off and pray. It is no safer having the lockout while moving as to trying to use the voice recognition.
Toyota definitely missed the mark with the nav system in the Highlander. Please investigate the coverage before you invest in the Nav or updates. I think this nav is giing to be a problem and back to my phone gps. Also, when the map is zoomed out, it hardly shows any cities. When you buy a Garmin unit you get updates for the life of the unit and the updates come out two to three times per year and take an hour to install on a slow machine.
Can you explain those dates?? The Navigation system is just plain stupid! The route selections it offers are poor choices. We just got back from a 4,200-mile road trip. And, they should really be ashamed of charging big bucks to update the maps. So, my Highlander has a Garmin stuck to the windshield. You may also prefer to avoid certain types of routes, such as toll roads, ferries, or routes with carpool lanes. D or and many other States. My Garmin sorts them by the distance the address is from where where you are at that moment.
I do use it to save the battery on my phone, but I always run Waze. Lastly, Although I love the car, I still would think twice if I would buy a Highlander when we move back again simply because of the navigation system — it is not optimal and after all — I paid for the entire package and that includes a reliable and functional navigation system. Fueling time varies with hydrogen fueling pressure and ambient temperature. So if you were travelling how would you even know what the closest town to the address is? Maybe our dealer sets something differently on the cars he sells. I see no way to turn off traffic.
On my simple commute to work, the nav sends me 5 miles out of my way to be on a highway. There is far too much missing data and the system clearly did not go thru a human factors evaluation. Updates may be available from your dealer at an additional cost. It is the worse system ever! Even when the system is in use, the internal temperature may reach a high or low level due to features such as automatic shutoff. So, it is anybody out there who has a solution or can point me in the right direction. I think it is probably both.
