I couldn't understand why when I was driving I could no longer view vehicles in the lanes next to me and then I realized my mirrors had changed. The headlights are unacceptable because we can barely see with them at night. If that sensor goes bad, the headlights will still move at startup, but won't move at any other time, and there will be a yellow indicator light on the dash headlight with motion curves on one side that will light up. This is a serious safety issue and I'm not sure if my car will pass the annual inspection. I do not have a case open with the Lexus corporation but they are singing the same song as the dealer. These bulbs have a very high voltage that runs through them, even if the battery is disconnected. After stopping and turning off the ignition, the lights come on again after restarting the engine.
Manually turning the headlights off and on gets them on again. It seems like it's an accident waiting to happen. I have appointment with Lexus to fix, but should be a recall safety item. Sometimes the left headlight will turn off and the right stays on and vice versa for the right or both. This is a safety hazard. We were driving on an interstate with no other lights around and we drove it in the city the next night. Usually, I can immediately switch back to my low beam and they will come back on. With this system, the leveling motor adjusts the height while driving when the brakes are pressed too quickly to avoid the beam shooting down as the nose goes down and while accellerating hard to prevent the beam from shooting up and blinding oncoming drivers as the nose rises. Sometimes I'd drove the car into work and someone would say I have a headlight out and I'd take it to my mechanic which happened more than I can say and they would be fine, until the next time. The problem started with one light then the other with no reason.
When the lights are switched off then back on they work once again but usually for a few minutes only. It looks like the lights need adjusted but I can not find an adjustment. This makes you out drive your headlights constantly, like driving blind. Above the line is what can only be described as a black wall. I am forced to turn on my brights. Sometimes when I drive at night, the lights will just go out.
The afs are turned off. After inspecting the lights, they found the plastic mount was disintegrating. In some Lexuss, the highbeam is the same bulb as the headlight and it is possible for the highbeam to work, but the headlight be burnt out even if they are the same bulb and vise versa. Someone told me that they might be self leveling lights and I need to replace the motor on them. Thank you Well i will recommend you to use or see your car manual and it should tell you what to do. Makes me afraid to drive after dusk.

Again, a safety issue because now I need to readjust my mirrors while I'm driving. We took the car back to the dealer, who said he turned the afs off and it would be ok. Then the problem starts again.
For the past 2+ years my headlights have sporadically been turning off. The current mileage was 2,500 and failure mileage was 20. The old one , when opened up 4 screws was full of rusty water. Above the line is what can only be described as a black wall. At times both low beam headlights flicker and shut off completely causing no vision at night.
Some Lexuss have high intensity discharge headlights, sometimes referred to as xenon lights. This makes you out drive your headlights constantly, like driving blind. I took the car the dealer and instantly they start talking about what I needed to pay. The contact stated that his headlights were beaming too low and caused poor visibility when driving at night. I replaced the Halogen bulbs and they are shining brighter but not as far out. I consider myself lucky to have made it home safely both nights that I have driven this car. Luckily I have a second car to drive, but would prefer driving my new car.
