I had to pry and pull on that filter to get it out because of the o-ring. Turn the key back to off and remove it from the ignition switch. You can verify that it is the oil pan because the crankshaft pulley is in line with the front of the pan. It is used to switch between display of the odometer, the trip odometer, and the oil life counter. The fill plug is on the top, next to the sticker. Once that is done, shut off the car, restart it and check that it worked.
