I am assuming that the differential ring and pinion gears, gaskets and lub will be replaced. I contacted the dealership which I bought it from.
Dealer will provide 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on new differential and claims that it will be covered until 64,221 miles. He parked the vehicle and advised the service adviser. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, there was a sudden jolt and a clunking noise which caused the vehicle to stall and would not move. The incident date below is the most recent one. I don't drive it hard and it is exceptionally maintained.
Dealer said that entire rear axle needs to be replaced. Nissan not interested in helping. I noticed some loud thuds coming from the drivetrain as I accelerated. The first one occurred at 47k miles and was covered under warranty, now at 67k miles the same seal has failed again and now I have to pay out of my own pocket. At 58k miles, the truck rear end began to slip badly.
I took it in to the dealer, that evaluated the failure and replaced the complete rear drive member, if this had locked up it could have caused a severe accident on the freeway. I brought it back and the gaskets for the transmission lines had to be replaced. Tried driving it to work a few days later and on my way in to work another left turn I heard a loud pop almost like I hit a pot hole or something, but there was nothing on the road. The vehicle was not repaired. Drove slowly to nissan dealer this morning with pops happening driving straight.
I pulled into a gas station and the rearend was popping and grinding. I then called for a tow truck. On two occasions the rear wheels unexpectedly locked up causing skidding. Nissan indicates that I am 30 days past the expiration of my warranty, but under the mileage requirement. This could have caused a loss of control of the vehicle. Since the vehicle had 40,000 miles on it, it was replaced under the 60,000 mile warranty.
I thought to myself, im going to make a circle around the parking lot before getting out on the highway. The current and failure mileages were less than 67,400. The failure mileage was 90,000. Dropped it off to nissan dealer in nj, they are replacing the rear end now, under powertrain warranty. Both rear axle seals are leaking, oil is getting onto the rear wheels braking system thereby posing a potentially dangerous situation for the occupants and the vehicle.
Whenever the vehicle was driven over a pothole, the contact heard loud noises coming from the rear of the vehicle. I think it's on the right side back, but not really sure. I was told by my mechanic that both of these incidents could have caused me to crash and that I was lucky. Noticed on further inspection underneath excessive fluid leak from rear axle onto wheel and tires causing smoke. Possible safety issue and a common problem with nissan titans. The vehicle was not repaired. I would not be able to get to the store to buy food.
While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact stated that he heard a howling noise from the rear of the vehicle. Complaint Number: 10232963 Incident Date: July 1, 2008 Date Added to File: July 1, 2008 Description of the Complaint: Rear differential axle seal failure, causing differential fluid to leak onto rear disc brakes making braking difficult and dangerous. I was also contacted by an attorney who informed me that he was conducting a law suite and wanted to know what issues I have had. Nissan has several class action suits pending, stemming from their absolute disregard to the warranties they sell. Please assist me in this matter my 2005 nissan titan le is still not fixed. I have digital pictures of fail part in question. Automotive shop found c clip on the end of the splined axle shaft broken and the splines stripped and twisted where it goes into the gear.
