You can reassemble it in a vise if you don't have access to a press. Drill a hole in the side of it. If you only change the seal and not the axle you will have to pay again for the labor to remove it and you will hate yourself. . Something tells me that this is going to be an ongoing problem with this vehicle. Regardless, a pitted shaft will not hold even a new seal it will still leak. Although it's not the ideal way to do it you can use an air chisel to take the old bearing off.
Eventually I noticed clear and oily goo all over my rear passenger inner rim and caliper. You can buy the bearing and seal components seperate but you still need a shop to do the press work. How unfortunate but on the C200 Rear end there is no other way to re-install a new seal without removal of the bearing assy. Does anybody have any idea how to replace this that does not involve major muscle movement? I even called my dealer back in the states and he recommends a machine shop but won't tell me how they do it in their shop. The short of this issue, at least inspect the axle if not just change the whole axle instead of just the seal. Slide the pieces on and use the jaws of the vise to support the bearing and use a hammer to drive it together.
Put the flat chisel against the race and drive it off. Bought the truck from a Jeep dealership that was a trade in. I got the seal and pulled the axle, what fun that was only to discover that the axle seal is mpossble to replace without a machine shop because there is a hydraulically pressed spacer after the bearing roller that keeps me from getting the seal off. Also changing the whole axle I believe is faster than taking it apart so that may save some time on labor theoretically. It comes with the seal and bearing. The spacer will crack and then you can slide it off.
Now this truck I have had both left and right seals replaced on a vehicle with less than 70k miles on it. Use a flat chisel across the hole and give it a good hit with a hammer. The spacer is easy to remove. The key here is that the axle shaft was pitted poor quality metal? I talked to my local Nissan shop and there answer was get a new axle or new roller and spacer and they can heat it u and cut the pieces off. Most shops use a hydraulic press and special plates to press the bearing and retainer off and on.
