That is the only way to find the problem with out having an actual breakdown.
Local mechanic flushed transmission and repaired radiator. The transmission will fail and there is no way of knowing there is a problem unless you check the radiator periodically. Now my Frontier is in dunn's transmission shop in tyler, tx to be repaired. Did this however transmission went into limp mode and progressively got worse. The transmission also began slipping.
Told by Nissan that I was sol due to over 100,000 miles. Mechanics and auto part stores have diagnosed it as an issue with the transmission brake control valve internal. Appreciate your response on this matter. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission. I put my flashers on and was able to coast to an exit. The Nissan dealership I purchased the car from did something to cover up the issue which was obviously why they were trying to sell it before 100k and I got burned on it.
Was first told by the dealer. Nissan is very aware of these problems but refuses to remedy or repair. Driving at interstate speed 70mph , transmission failed causing sudden deceleration. Don't ignore the warning signs of a failing transmission. Vehicle had exceeded the 80,000 mile warranty but also found out that warranty had been extended from the original 36,000 mile warranty because of problems. Dealer tried to blame my brakes. The dealer's failure to notify me about the radiator design flaw, which they knew about it in 2007, kept me from replacing it.

Took a week for them to finally call back. Nissan will not reimburse the repair. Vehicle seemed to drive okay after the repair. I was never told of the recall or that I should bypass the radiator or beware of the problem. Dealer said transmission failure was due to a radiator issue on vehicle. This has caused the vehicle to not change gears properly and is a danger as it does not accelerate as it should.
The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission. The dealer did not research the warranty and tried to have me pay full price. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced. There are 10 choices for the 2005 Nissan Frontier Transmission Assembly!!! The dealer advised the coolant was leaking into the transmission and both the transmission and the coolant system would need to be replaced due to cross contamination. This transmission unit has been inspected, tested and ready to ship.
I was in the Nissan dealership just 1 week prior for an oil change and have had the vehicle serviced at Nissan since it was new. Appreciate your response on this matter. What further concerns me is that they seem to be stuck with their situation and unable to go further. You can believe Nissan knows exactly when these incidents are likely to occur so they extended their coverage up to that point and they fail thereafter. While driving 45 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle would vibrate into the next gear. There have been recalls on other vehicles for the same reason, yet not on the Nissan Frontier pickup. Transmission still slips and clunks and is presently parked. The failure and current mileages were 91,000. Had radiator drained and flushed and thermostat replaced,service center did not cite any discoloration of fluid.
The problem slowly got worse with shuttering occurring at different speeds and under different loadings. There is no way to no if there is a problem until it was to late.
