I have the rack and pinion steering. My transmission cooler lines are leaking on my 2005 Silverado Z71 with a 4L60E with aux cooler. Did a repair on a Ford Contour similar to this. Hello everyone Hope all is well. Front exhaust get in the way? Never had future leaks on any of them. Of course remove drive shaft also right? This is what we've done on all our work trucks that develop this problem. Fortunately mine were under warranty when they started leaking.
Glad to hear that my leaky line days are done. After reading the transmission line leak threads on this forum, I did a pictorial of this repair as well as a transmission flush write-up here Would appreciate any feedback. Has anyone done transmission cooler lines on a 2007 chevy silverado 1500 classic? If you can avoid to cut the line, do so. Make sure the new lines are clipped in tight and that the plastic disc if used is pushed all the way on to keep them in place. We know car parts and we know auto parts. But to update ya, Thanks a ton for the tip on the jiffy tool, That thing saved my but for sure, makes it simple to get lines out. There is a special tool for them but I have never seen one that works worth a crap. I ordered all 3 because I figured the other 3 weren't far behind. Looks to be a good write-up. How much access did it give ya lowering tranny? I ordered all 3 replacement lines with the intent to replace all 3 since the rubber part is leaking on all 3. Having said that, when you find the sweet spot, they work.
I did it on my 2004 Silverado 2wd. I think only 1 of the lines are leaking, the one from the trans to the bottom of the cooler in the radiator. Nice write up on the line repair. I dropped tranny as low as she would go then pried it over and was able to get my hand up in there to feel with the jiffy tool and popm them out.
They run underneath the steering rack. Those clips are tiny so be careful if you remove them. I did it on the ground. I jacked the truck up, slid under and I don't see how I can get the lines off the transmission, there isn't space. . . .
