Using a gps my wife was able to confirm that I was unknowingly traveling at a speed very different than the speed limit. I compared the speedometer mph with the gps mph many times throughout the rest of the trip. Now, this was not a problem exclusive to Suburbans. Vehicle only has 57000 miles on it. The engine didn't seem to change its running speed as the speedometer fluctuations were occurring. After a few days it was normal then all of a sudden it does not register at all.

Not having an accurate speed reading while driving a vehicle of this size is a significant safety issue to the driver and passengers of this vehicle, and other vehicles on the roadway. At that time the needle was just jumping and got stuck at a certain speed but would go back to almost zero occasionally. As I can gage speed off the tachometer, I've waited a year to address it hoping for a recall. Thank you thank you thank you!. This occurred over a couple of months and finally the speedometer completely quit working. Does not work at all. Only while applying a small load would the ground become open.
While driving I never know the speed I'm going. Have there been any recalls on this problem? Then it would gradually go down each time the vehicle came to a stop. Also, is this something the dealer must perform? I researched this on the internet have found many problems with the speedometer on this vehicle. Also ensure that the instrument panel lamp dimmer switch is in the minimum brightness position. I noticed that the speedometer seemed to be giving a false reading. Speedometer stopped working, oil gauge not reading properly etc.
