I have taken this truck to Florida from Ontario with the new axle, no problems, and have since added about 30,000 miles and it's working good. If you inspect the axles and notice unusual slop where it should not be replacing them may be your only option even if the boots are still good.

They examined the rear brakes and differential and found numerous large chunks of broken metal inside, which she said were pieces of shoes, hardware, and gears. I don't have this money.
The vehicle was towed to the residence where the contact performed a self diagnostic test on the vehicle. I make hard earned payments on this truck. They then noticed that a tsb just came out that said that just the seals cannot be replaced. Nissan needs a heavier rear end for this truck. Contacted Nissan dealer and they referred me to Nissan consumer affairs. My warranty has expired and I have only 85,000 miles on it! Denied by nissan for any assistance. The humming has recently turned into a much louder whining noise, so I took the truck into nissan for evaluation.
Pence nissan replaced the entire rear end unit as they did with other trucks with the same problem. Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. What am I supposed to do?. They don't want to help me. A loud bang came from the rear end of my 2004 nissan titan. Parked within 2 miles of hearing it and found fluid leaking out of the rear differential at the point where the drive shaft connects.
Thankfully I had 4wd to safely make it to the dealership. Differential fluid is leaking everywhere. About 2 hours later, I went back to the shop and the technician took me to go see the problem. About a week later I put the truck on a lift myself. My radiator also busted last week.
I got a gray seal for the truck and have paid it almost completely off in the 6 years I have owned it. The complaints about leaking are focused on the rear axle, which is the axle that does the most work, but there are some reports also concerning leaky seals on the front axle. Dealer inspected and found rear differential components broken. He took the vehicle to the dealer, and was in the process of having the vehicle repaired. Complaint Number: 10161866 Incident Date: July 7, 2006 Date Added to File: July 8, 2006 Description of the Complaint: Rear axle leaks and differential pinion seal leaking. After installation of the new rear axle the vehicle developed a vibration at 25-30 mph. My truck has not been abused, has a towing package which has been used to tow a trailer only a few times and had only 62,000 miles at the time of the failure. Shoulder on bolts was too short and only hit one side of spider gear assembly flange, with other side riding on the threads. Upon inspection I found that the electronic locker disintegrated damaging the rear end.
In no way was this a action that tested the limits of my vehicles design. The rear end has come apart twice. Nissan has a bad part in their trucks, please investigate, there are many others, all I can do is suggest they report their problems here also, perhaps that will help.
The dealership was called and they paid for the truck to me towed back. I pulled into my garage and looked at my tires and under my truck. My rear wheels spun breefly in the snow until they hit the dry pavment. The second time was the same situation only I wasn't pulling a trailer, the dealership again put another 2005 axle in.
