Everybody that I talk to with a Trailblazer has the same problem. My wife mainly drives it to take our kids to school and their activities, and errands. Unless I misunderstand what safety means? Also if your battery is draining down due to a problem with the gauge cluster we can fix that as well. You drive a few miles and look down. Sometimes after a short period of time, it will run again. I have several acquaintances with the same model and year Buick Terraza and they have the same issue.
I have done nothing about this issue, except I have learned the following things. I had 90,000 when mine started. There is a guy in oregon that replaces the 6 stepper motors. This is a defect and they need to recall this part! Lack of support by gm on this is disconcerting. Pretty much unscrew and unplug the cluster and install a new or good used one. I'm well into the double digits on problems associated with this vehicle! It really is great being able to see how much gas I have, how fast I am going and being able to see it at night. For some reason the gauges will work when they want. I would be willing to bet that that was caused the pre-mature failure of my U-joint there as well. That is the one thing that you can see visibly right away that may have been updated. No gauge movement means bad gauge. I had the same problem on my 2002 Trailblazer back in summer of 2004. You can replace the whole cluster quite easily. Better than new, been fixed by Fred.
