This problem is not only related to Chevrolet trucks but nearly all vehicles produced by gm. Once replaced at 38K miles and now again at 64K. There are times when after sitting with the engine off and the key out of the ignition, that it will go back to normal. Just the 4low light blinks several times. Can't keep replacing switches, after a month there has to be a reason this keeps happening.
Ford has covered things i never expected them to. But sometimes I would get in the car and the car would be in 4wd low. The 1st time the mice chewed the wires by the transfer case. I took it in to chevy, few days later same thing,at 83,000 miles i jus replace the transfer case and the switch still goes waco. Thankfully for this one I bought an extended warranty.
A few months later the light came on again and I took it in right away. Or am I even heading in the right direction? We have to shut the engine off wait a few minutes start the engine and then immediately start pushing the button to switch it over. Service 4 wheel light on, just reset. The computer tells the encoder motor on transfer case to shift. Don't know what is causing this to go out again, there are times when the service 4 wheel comes on the light may say it is in 4 low neutral, 4 high or nothing at all. I am going to start looking and pricing for a encoder motor sensor 88962315.
It will shift into another gear while parked after wet, either from dew, rain, carwash etc. I think Chevy just ignored an obvious problem and let it fall on the consumer. Manwhile I have found someone with a code reader that I was going to try and get to help me tomorrow, so therefore I may be able to get it. The actuator was very simple to change so I new that it could not be that easy to replace and fix. Same problem with my 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71.
There are times when after sitting with the engine off and the key out of the ignition, that it will go back to normal. I can not engage the four wheel drive when the message comes up. I have a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban 4X4, we are having trouble with the 4 wheel drive not switching to 2 wheel drive or to four wheel drive. Found blown fuse and replaced. Have you ever adjusted or the shift cable on your 1500 Chevy.
Most code readers do not have capabilities to read B, C or U codes. So try the battery disconnect first and save some money but in my case my switch was fried anyway. I am not in town right now so I'm not going to do anything about it other than I did pull the 4x4 fuse out of the dash so it can't go into four wheel drive arbitrarily. No, I do not know which I have. I call G M after a long they said the will fix it. I have the same problem on my 2004 Z71. Now at start-up lights sequence and might land on any drive mode even 4L.
Posted on Nov 08, 2008 Take it to autozone first and have them check it with their tester. Or does all the activity occur in the transfer cass? It has been found by Chevy dealer to be the actuator, twice. Thanks for the continued help. To save time and understand the problem better, get the appropriate scan tool to retrikeve trouble codes. If you are a novice off road person the motor and gears last a long time.
It has been found by Chevy dealer to be the actuator, twice. My service 4 whhel drive lights come on also. I have serviced the transfer case and front diff. My husband was the one that took it up there that time and he wouldn't listen to me when I said I had researched this already ;- I put that one down on the calendar it doesn't happen very often that I'm right! Ignition switch is does not always turn without jiggling intermittent. They might even knock some of the price off for the repair if you have recently purchased the truck within the past few months. Mar 08, 2018 The 4X4 system is controlled by a electronic control module. The push button controls the four wheel drive computer.
