I ended up buying the newly designed Solenoids with rain hood. The vehicle did not disengage or shift out of 4X4 into 4X2 under a load or in a bind. Relay box 3 Ford F150 1999-2003. Normal operation of the system stops when the self- test is activated. I drove up, got the part, dove under the truck in the dealership parking lot, pulled out the old, put in the new, started up the truck, engage 4wd and bam!!!!!!!!! If the front drive shaft does not turn, the problem is in the front axle.

The marks are molded in the plastic - one on the switch body and the other on the moving collar. This is just the most common cause, best to confirm with the 1st test above, to know if you should look to the trans case, or axle. Remove the panel cover to access the fuses. Its a square flat motor assembly. But spending 35 bucks and time is a lot cheaper then over 800 bucks hands down! The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the fwd engagement gear would not shift into place when driving in icy conditions. Last season I went through the common problem with solenoids getting wet, freezing and cracking from water intrusion.
