But now for some reason the carb seems to be still getting flooded w gas. There is a cable in the top, front of the engine that splits into two connectors. Carb has been rebuilt, air filter is clean, Compression is good,it's fouling plugs like crazy and the choke seems to make very little difference. If you are still that rich even if you have the pilot screw that far in, then I would agree that you have a choke problem. It's gotten to the point where it was parked for 4 years just because of the issues. We are talking about the same idle air screw.

I have had to replace the wire for the starter but now when I try to start it it wont idle at all and when it does run it smokes really bad like a whitish blue I guess, and it likes to stall a lot. Could a clogged muffler cause this? When the throttle was closed, the top of the needle was just long enough to keep the needle jet and main jet closed, but as soon as the throttle was cracked even just a bit, the needle and main jets were wide open. I sunk my quad a few months ago. All I can say right now is By pilot screw, do you mean the one for the idle circuit? So I took the carb back apart to see if he put something together wrong or lost a part etc. Idles like a charm and once I re-adjust the choke cable i'm confident it will run like new. If I get it warmed up good it pops pretty bad during deceleration.
I've checked all the cables to the carb and it just doesn't make sense! I'm puzzled and ready to just buy a new carb. I disassembled the carb and rebuilt it with a kit. As soon as I pulled the top of the carb apart, I noticed the problem immediately, he had put the jet needle in upside down. It grabs before the engine has a chance to rev, which stalls it. Ok, I see idle issues here but none of them seem to fit my problem. The cable elbow is under the handgrip so I never noticed it had come loose.
I've done everything I can think of on the intake side. It doesn't seem to make any difference. Covers complete tear down and rebuild, pictures and part diagrams, torque specs, maintenance, troubleshooting, etc. However, there appears to be a small o ring, washer and spring left over from the kit. I have had to replace the wire for the starter but now when I try to start it it wont idle at all and when it does run it smokes really bad like a whitish blue I guess, and it likes to stall a lot. Issue 3, bad shocks: The springs or shocks are bad and the quad leans hard when getting on. Issue 2, Starter clutch blown out: The starter clutch is busted and spins free both directions.
The original carb wasn't really dirty or clogged. I had a friend who was having carb problems, so he took the carb apart, replaced some gaskets, cleaned it out, and put it back together. Any help or suggestions would be great. If you are still that rich even if you have the pilot screw that far in, then I would agree that you have a choke problem. Idles like a charm and once I re-adjust the choke cable i'm confident it will run like new.
It was draining out of carb into airfilter box. You also asked if a clogged muffler could be your problem, I would guess that it isn't your problem, but I can't rule it out. If thats ok then i would look closley at your jets. There is a cable in the top, front of the engine that splits into two connectors. I'll use it as a spare. I think I solved the problem w gas getting into case by fixing the hose. The machine would start and idle fine, but as soon as you touched the throttle, it would begin to run extremely rich, and would only clear up when you opened the throttle completely, and would backfire when you let the throttle off.
My quadmaster did the same thing. It makes more sense now cause the cable was a pain in the butt to put back on the carb. Blew air through the petcock etc. . There is a small bowl like thing on the side of carb that has a rubber seal that is shaped like a bow with a spring inside it. I feel like an idiot that such a simple fix caused that big of a problem.
It doesn't seem to make any difference. It has a good cable and it is hooked up. I didn't check to see if the cable is pushing the plunger back down. He gave up and brought it to me, he said he wanted to check the vavles, so I did that first, they were fine. I'm really thinking it is in the choke.
