It has left me stranded 3 times so far. This entry-level Olds shares its basic body structure, chassis platform and mechanical components with the Pontiac Grand Am, but it has unique styling. Have your diagnostic codes read by your local dealership or a mobile auto electrician, as this should immediately identify where the problem lies. There's a defined problem with these vehicles and gm should be taking responsibility for them. Has anybody seen this before? The fuel pump had been replaced 3 times. The fuel pump had an internal short. The motor would crank but not turn over and the security light came on.
Had to have car towed and repair shop said it was a fuel filter. The problem reoccurred three weeks later and the vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The next morning as I tried to start my car it wouldn't start. The next day it started went to work same thing it tries to start but will not and that is where I am now. You mention replacing the positive cable, how are the ground connections and cables. And I looked in the owners manual and it stated that the ignition light starts to flash after turning the key to the on or run position then the ignition needs to be serviced.
There are likely several identical relays in the box - you could swap the starter relay with another for a while to see what happens. The current mileage was 43000. I did the 10 minute security reset procedure per the owners manual and that work once but once I turned the car off it would not start again and the reset procedure would not work again. Sleek and I love the blue color. My dad came to the conclusion that the car needs a new starter relay, but I cannot find this on the car or anywhere in the repair manual, so I am not even sure if it exists.
Noticed that security is flashing again in right corner. The failure mileage was 34,000. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The next time it happened I bought a longer ground cable and ran it to a bolt on the engine. It then starts but I have notice that this keeps happening to the point where even if the car does start and run the security light will stay on for days and then sometimes may go off.
The contact had that repaired, but that did not correct the problem. First time it happened was in July when it turned 60,000 miles. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as the key remained in the off position and failed to turn. Has continued to fail to start. Go inside for 20 to 35 minutes, I get into the car and start her up and it doesn't start. I just need a answer thanks. Overall, a great car that's still going strong and no other problems to mention.
I have numerous complaints filed with olds and general motors. I will check the ground connections. The technician diagnosed that the lock cylinder and ignition switch needed to be replaced. You may need to get that checked out. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and the fuel pump was replaced. Flashing will stop, turn back to off position and then try to start the car.
Recalls have never been issued on any of these complaints because it would probably cost millions of dollars for them to fix the problems. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Mileage is now at 74,000. There is no final time frame for the discontinuation of the brand. Coupe I have been on several sites and am finding many Alero owners having the same problems that I have encountered over the last couple of years.
I had a 98 olds intrigue that had problems starting and shutting off at any speed. My father purchased the Aero brand new and drove it to work daily for 4 years and now it is my daily driver to and form school. The total sales of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero in the United States are 112,458 units. They are just as important. Overall, a good car and I certainly got more than my money's worth. I have replaced the ignition switch with no change to the issue. .
The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. It was cute, reliable, fun to drive. It ties right to it. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. While driving at 65 mph in 5 pm traffic, the car engine shut off and coasted from the left lane to the emergency lane. I wake up for work today, it wont crank! Finally fed up with gm-the dealer-inability to fix the problems x 1. My father connected an ignition button from my battery to somewhere around the starter so to start the car I have to turn the battery on, pop the hood, and press a button which looks like a bomb detonator.
I am still making payments on this car and it doesn't even run and of course the dealer isn't taking it back. Until the brand goes away, however, Oldsmobile continues with one of its strongest product lineups. Note that the number of problems reported for the 2001 Alero is 529 while the average number of problems reported for the 8 model years of the Oldsmobile Alero is 357. It still has great gas mileage and handles very well. It was then towed to an Oldsmobile dealership; who said that the fuel pump was the problem for a second time. From the new Bravada and Aurora to Intrigue and Alero, Oldsmobile offers a range of vehicles that appeals to almost every customer segment. Have you tried a different key? Be careful on this problem, this car has a problem on the pas-loc security system,go to type in 2001 alero wont start.
