I will just lower the pan and clean the filter sometime when I have money and let the delear do it for me because I am scared to do it because one poster here have problem or leak after he did it. I read and see it in yotube that they suggested to do the drain and fill 3 times and in between the drain and fill, I have to change or shift the gears. Run engine at idle speed for five minutes. If fluid is still dirty, repeat steps 2 through 5. Don't go too long without fixing your Automatic Transmission Fluid.
I also read where it was actually recommended to drain the pan,remove a cooler line and use 20lb of air to push the rest on through, reinsert the plug ,then fill it up while running back to running dry. Include: Transmission Overhaul Kit, standard set of friction clutch plates and a standard set of steel clutch plates. Don't do anything to it. My car have 195k on it but believe me it run like a charm. If it is low or empty, check for where the leak is. I don't think you will see any benefit from the synthetic. When your first starting the car up after initial service, shift back and forth between drive and reverse several times to get the fluid pumping through, if you do not feel it shift into gear at all after several times switching between forward and reverse then check your fluid. Then I just read where it said to drain pan and add about 4 qts let it run and mix then drain the pan again and it would replace 90% of the fluid this sounds more safe but dose it actually work. The fluid and filter change is the least expensive of the two and that is more than likely what the issue is. What is the process or the right procedure? I will check the guide again.

I have talked to the nissan part guy and he told me, regarding the fluid, to just get either dextron 2 or 3 and to fill about 5 quarts in it, since the 10 are not needed. The engine in your 2004 Nissan Maxima should be running when you perform a transmission fluid level check, otherwise it will be inaccurate. As the fluid exits the cooler into the tank, it pushes against the bladder and forces the clean fluid into the cooler hose, where it returns to the transmission. On the negative side, you often have to waste a lot of tranny fluid to do it it's expensive! If you know what i mean Thanks. Just drain it from there and then refill it.
