This car has been serviced regularly,however I have only had this vehicle in 4wheel drive 5 times since I have owned it new. It could also be the wiring ging to the newer trans may be different from the one you took off. So I asked the dealer to check where the leak was coming from. Lift the drive shaft upward, out of the way, and lower the axel housing as far down as it will go.
Or you can take it back to the salvage yard you got it from, show them the results from the compression test and either get another motor, or have them refund your money. No codes are present and therefore the encoder sensor is not at fault since the truck functions correctly in 2-Hi, 4-Hi, and 4-Lo. And this is causeing the noise? The dealer repaired the vehicle per the warranty and replaced a switch underneath the instrument panel; the failure recurred in December 2009. It was the right part, the numbers matched. I pullled the seal out and you easily see and move the shaft around in the bore and see the play.
Oct 12, 2015 The head on the motor you bought is bad; or the head gasket is leaking; or the rings in the 2 center pistons are bad. Fortunately, the cross tube exhaust pipe runs just rear of the bell housing, and I didn't have to disturb the rusted exhaust bolts. You can hear it switch the transfer case and it even gears it down when you put it in 4 low. This went on for some time. Finally, I used a small hydrolic jack against the front of the tranny to push up the motor. When I cranked up the tune, it became an issue---lol! The service 4 wheel drive light illuminated when he first purchased the vehicle in August of 2008. That must be it but is that all you think that might need replacing clip or will there be visual confirmation that a bearing or pump needs to be replaced? If that is the problem, can be repaired by replacing bearing and seal on the tube.
One good point that I learned while dealing with these problems was that the back half of the t-case bearing pocket tends to wear out on these vehicles prematurely.
