You need to replace the coolant temperature gauge sender. Or wiggle the sender connector, if it wobbles, it's bad. If you want to make it cooler you'll sacrifice emisions efficency , you can apply the mod. Just not actually sure where the sensors are located. On the end of the wire, put a spade lug. If you loosen the hose clamps on each side of the resonator you can push it back to clear the mount and then lift it up pivoting on the hoses. I just got the car back from the dealership today. I would start by inspecting the fan relay and then jumpering the relay to see if the fan kicks on, if not I would pull the fan wire connector off at the motor and test for power. With the gauge not working that could be the gauge it's self is bad or more likely the sender is bad.

It sounds to me like you have a bad sensor for the coolant and a bad sender unit! The heating problem is probably the Thermostat stuck open, that would throw the sensor off.
