This pleasant environment is complemented with generous cargo space. God forbid we had had a full load of passengers, I fear we might still be picking up pieces of engine casing from the tarmac today. It was troublesome to figure out. Car has trouble starting in winter, fuel pump broke loose. I expected a jeep wrangler to outperform but it needed a tow from the pathy.
Interior is nicely designed, but could incorporate a more space-efficient layout with seats down. Front dual air bags, front and rear body structure crumple zones, hood buckling creases with safety tops and an energy-absorbing steering column also feature. All recommended service due dates seem to be correct, or the sectors will actually break down or malfunction. I recommend this car to first time buyers and anyone that is looking for a fun car to drive that is durable. Price may be an issue for some buyers.
The suspension was designed to handle streets and trails alike. The speedometer, tachometer, water temperature and fuel level gauges are large. Shifting it into low range was useful for creeping over extremely rugged or slippery ground. But most of its competitors then offered little more. Most of the desirable add-ons can be grouped in packages. Getting those disparate virtues to coexist in a single vehicle is a tall order.
But most of its competitors then offered little more. Frankly, little in the way of alteration was needed. Not to mention the fuel pump. We spent most of our test drive on paved roads. Pathfinders run the gamut from basic to fully loaded. I find it comfortable and especially love the cargo room when you put the back seats down.
That small dose of history is meant to suggest that the folks at Nissan have paid attention to the world around them, and have adapted the Pathfinder to meet changing needs. Sensible rotary dials operate the climate control system. Its replacement, a '99 early model, is much more car-like, albiet a large, heavy car. Model year 1999 Year of manufacture 1999 First year of ownership 2001 Most recent year of ownership 2005 Engine and transmission 3. This vehicle handles well, has a great Bose stereo system, and is an overall great value for the money.
There is also a lot of room to modify this car to your liking. Ordering these extras is easy. Braking is competent and without drama, since anti-lock brakes are standard equipment. The rear door handles are camouflaged in the C-pillars, giving it the sporty look of a two-door. Rounded corners and attractive proportions between body and greenhouse serve the Pathfinder well, as do curved roof pillars. Warranty strictly applied by manufacturer.

The total interior volume is 130. Big buttons are used for the necessary functions. Provides a reasonably comfortable ride for all passengers on bad roads.
Seriously, this truck is my buddy. This car reminds me of the old Toyota LandCruiser ads from the 70s. The Off-road look gave the Pathfinder a great, macho look, especially with the black bumpers etc. Automatics are preferred by many experienced drivers for off-road use. Moreover, the Pathfinder's very flat torque curve with more than 90% of the engine torque available between 1,500 - 1,800 rpm results in better engine response, more assured off-road control, and a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs with auto transmission. It also has anti-lock control for the front disc and rear drum brakes. And that suits us just fine. The driver's window needed lubrication because it was going down so slowly. At an off-road course in Canada we found the Pathfinder offered plenty of ground clearance and suspension articulation to handle obstacles that appeared impassable to our eyes. Or not, as the case may be.
I hit a speed table, got a foot of air, and still didnt bottom out the suspension. The interior is quite nice looking and driver-friendly. Body leans on tight turns, but its not a sports car. Primary Use: Family transportation My Second Pathfinder — My first Pathfinder was a '95, which I ran for ten years before the frame rusted out. This despite a 5-link rear suspension design with coil springs and shocks which are placed outboard so as to, supposedly, enhance stability and increase control of body lean. The only downside is that I live in Nebraska where salt is frequently applied to the roads during winter months and my metal side step boards have rusted.
