I have to admit I found electrical problems in my Toyota also, but never bad solder joints. One is a 1999 mine and the other is a 1998 my Dad's. You can try fixing it as explained in the other thread or just buy it. Let me know if you need more help. Besides checking the fuses, is there a relay that controls all 4 windows? I beleive it is a power supply problem of some sort because they either work at the same time or they are stuck at the same time so it is not the switches.
Also, on the C-Class, there is a switch on the center console between the seats that opens the trunk. I have 2 W202s I am working on. I will try to post the pics. Fuse box in engine compartment. If you're having problems check that line first. Also, both cars have intermittent operating power seats. Lo and behold the circuit board inside the relay had 8 out of 23 solder connections cracked ring cracks.
I did not know that relay had to do with the windows also. Circuit board is attached at right angle to base containing the male pins. On the C280, the trunk is electro-mechanical. There is a green vacuum line that plugs into it. Own 2 Benz only because I can tinker with them, now that I am retired. I¨m living in a country with short winter and long and very hot summer, so sometimes it reach up to 100 Centigrades.
Is there a relay for these too? I wouldn't think that relay would run that hot with intermittant use. Fused function A 1 Right low beam headlamp 7. I suppose vibration might cause a similar problem. Don't know where the seat relay is located. The holes are not plated through so the solder joint is very weak.
Hi, I lurk on this forum every now and then. Anyway, this will be the second bad solder joint I have fixed in this car. Comes home from the grocery store yesterday ,seats not working. But I found that you can use two metal nail files or feeler gauges. The C-Class Mercedes' still have the traditional exterior keyhole. Ray Hi Ray, I have been an electronic tech for 17 years, so you have a few years on me!! Maybe that other circuitry in the relay runs hot for some reason.
Fused function A 1 up to 31. Looking at the front of the factory radio you will notice two slits in both lower corners. Be careful do not enter in the red zone, you can damage your engine. Slip the files or gauges into the slits, this releases the side clasps. You will find many interesting electrical problems presented on this site.
Not sure why they put that circuit through a relay anyway. But, in normal conditions it can be 80 to 87 Centigrades. Time will tell ,but I think it will hold up. First one was the headrest motor which I detailed in a previous post. Keep in mind position 1 will turn on radio, but position 2 will illuminate the warning indicators on the dash. Service due or past due will display.
Could it be a relay that needs replacing. Fused function A 1 Turn signal lamps Trailer turn signal lamps Taximeter, taxi up to 31. Now sometimes they don't work for days at a time. Check solder connection to circuit board with a magnafying glass on the output pin. There was a small circle crack in the solder around the pin. All windows as of this morning are not operative. Leaving the files or gauges in place you should now be able to pull the radio head unit straight out… You have to go to the passenger side and under the glove box there are three Philips screws, take them out and you will find a square box , inside it is the fan.
