I wish I could describe the pack that the battery was connected to that was corroded but it was right behind where the battery sits, and the only place the wire first leads to, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to car stuff. My steering was fine and I never heard any groaning or other noises, but the fluid has to be replaced and you can clearly see the fluid all over the alternator and other parts. Alternator failure is a very common especially when the power steering pump is right above it and leakage of power steering fluid will short out the alternator. I like what some other members have recommended with the alternator, which is rebuilding it instead of replacing.
