The truck also wont go into od or lock up untill 60 mph also having to lift off gas and then at the sight of a rise in the road will drop out. I have to go up a big hill to get home. Dropping the sub frame includes separating the steering column and shocks. Also was making that whining noise, similiar to the fuel pump but from the transmission. Not hard, maybe 30 seconds. The transmission must come out and then you can access the slave cylinder which will be held on by a couple bolts. It had no problem up the hill earlier this day. It ran until 300 000 kms then went through about 500 kms of insane abuse of two redneck teenagers in a field one summer. The Oil Pan also rusted out as everything else under the truck. No problems with transmission at all until I changed out the engine oil sending unit. Rust, yeah, and a lot of things that make a racket going over train tracks, but overall, very good. The wires plug in to the top just pull straight up and it should come out.
I did extend the oil sending unit with 6 inch nipple and tee so I could easily hook up a mechanical oil test guage. Tried again in the afternoon, and was left stranded at the traffic light. It's just a start and i have known also that the 4X4 actuator will drain too. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. Mine was the torque converter; I dropped the trans to change the rear main oil seal and changed the convertor while it was apart 275,000 miles of heavy hauling it was a little preventative maintenance.

Jun 01, 2009 if youve got transmission fluid in it and it wont do anything it is a bad transmission, if it isnt shifting in a correct order then your then your modulator valve is unhooked, bad, or isnt on it and you have to buy one for about twenty dollars or so i think.
If applicable they usually punch out pretty easy. Let sit for at least 10 minutes and transmission will run for a few feet and totally quit, making noise as described. Remove bolts holding tranny to bell housing.
