No idea of mileage - it was all 20 mph or less, around camp use. If you buy a pickup truck, suddenly you will become popular when your family, scout troop, or friends need to move something. I am thinking about buying an Inline-6 F150, and wondered what you guys thought about them. Can anyone give me some clues as to what might be arong with my truck or is the price i have to pay for power. I don't need something with a lot of power or off-the-line zip, but just something that will tow a small load decently, and get great mileage. I am amazed, there is no oil leaking, the shocks are good, and the clutch is in fine shape. It has dual tanks for nearly 40 Gallons.
My broke friends often teased me about this truck :- Had the 4. The biggest problem you will have with performance is your engine is Speed Density. I'd say if you have the money then go for it. This truck had two gas tanks, which means a fuel pump in each tank. I ran those 33's on my bronco on the road for a couple of months without a lift. Front bearings may be bad as well as brake issues there.
General Comments: I am the lucky third owner of this F-150. General Comments: Truck was really quick while the auto transmission held up. I hardly ever reve it over 2500 and drive it fairly respectfully. No one knows how many miles it has on it, but I'm sure it's a fair few. I do my own maintenance and never modify my vehicles or loan them out. Minor dents in both front and rear bumpers. It never once failed to start.
It was my main vehicle for 21 years! Windshield wiper motor is wearing out intermittent feature turns off abruptly after 1 minute. Never did hand calculate the mileage but I don't think my old 79 F-150 4x4 ever got any more than 20 mpg. You could operate the simple controls by feel, without taking your eyes off the road. Luckily my supervisors do not care what I drive as long as its reliable, and I keep its appearance as clean as possible.
