No air conditioning -- never installed. Powertrains generally continued as before 1973, except that the 454 cid big block replaced the previous 402. Truck has never had any serious engine work except clutch replacement or body work. The truck is located about 15 miles south of Annapolis, Maryland. The 1987 model year - the final year of production - saw the series designators changed. .
It has never been in a collision with another vehicle. There is rust in the corners, but frame appears very solid. Engine and transmission run without issues. Call Tom 7 days a week 248-974-9513 tom vanguardmotorsales. I recommend any interested party to see the truck first-hand and kick the tires for yourself. The paint on this truck is phenomenal, the Black and Silver coordinate very well with one another. Always starts after I charge the battery and has never stranded me.
Brake power booster has failed, so I don't recommend driving this long distances. This was done to allow for concurrent production of its replacement early in 1987 of the all-new C and K models. I'm the second owner since August, 1988 and have original receipt. Rear corners and sides have dents common to work trucks. This is the perfect truck you've been looking for! It proved to be a preview for 1981 and the rest of the production run, with an all new simplified front clip, new hood and single plane grille. Manual transmission works in 4H and 4L, as well as two-wheel drive mode.
I still drive the truck five or six times a year to pick up drywall, etc. Trim lines ranged from the entry level Custom, Custom Super, Sierra, to top end Sierra Grande. Names were revised in 1975, with the hierarchy going from Sierra, Sierra Grande, High Sierra, to Sierra Classic. This remained in effect through 1982, when the High Sierra was dropped, with the others continuing though the end of series production. Tailgate is solid and reasonably straight, but hinges on truck have rusted out.
The front and rear brakes have been upgraded with all stainless steel lines. Original paint and interior, and it shows. The two-wheel-drive C-series became the R-series, then the four-wheel-drive K-series was renamed the V-series. This is a serious, powerful truck and would make an awesome vintage ride. The air conditioning in this Sierra is unbelievable, it blows ice cold! One of the sliding back windows has broken. This truck for the most part has been a southern truck and you can already guess, it is rust free! The panels on this pickup are all original including the cab corners and the rockers.
