The tube is too wide to install on the bottom of the frame meaning the only way it it can be installed is on top of the frame. Which is probably why you are looking to buy it in the first place. Second, the bolts do not line up.

The last problem is the most major and unforgivable. Otherwise, you would weld the holes closed and drill new ones. Havent ran the exhaust yet but the main reason for purchasing it was to run the exhaust over the top of it to keep it tucked up higher and avoid scraping it. I didnt notice it changing the angle of the drivetrain or causing anything in the engine compartment to move closer to the firewall as men tioned in other reviews. It will allow trans filter replacement without crossmember removal. The first two problems are relatively simple fixes.
I find it surprising that an aftermarket trans x-member is not readily available for our '73-'87 trucks. They're available for a variety of Ford and Chevy transmissions and are manufactured each vehicle's specifications for a precision fit.
