Disney has put some time and care into this 10 year-old catalogue title. However, this one looks pretty good for an older teen title. It can be proudly claimed by that generation. But it's crisp and lively, satisfactorily conveying the host of sampled and performed songs. Clear, intelligible, reasonably well-prioritized dialogue dominates the mix, even if a few lines delivered at Kat's prom are lost in the bustling crowd. Also featuring a retro soundtrack of memorable nineties tunes, 10 Things I Hate About You is a comedy you can count on. Stiles looks the same and so does Krumholtz depending on his hair.
However, some of those tidbits could have made this more of a must-see release. Funny is funny, captivating is captivating, and clever is clever. This piece has new interviews with director Junger and writers Smith and Lutz, but everything else is old style footage. Writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith are joined on a new audio track with stars Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan, David Krumholtz and Susan May Pratt. Also scored, the submenus simply use character stills. Resolution is adequate, although there are a couple of instances of some ringing, but thankfully they're kept to a minimum. For the 10th anniversary Disney has packed the Blu-ray with a multitude of special features including a cast look back at the making of 10 Things I hate about you, deleted scenes, Cast and Audio Commentary tracks, and also Heath Ledger's screen test. The only glaring omission is a digital copy, which would be nice for the little ones to see this film while you are on the go. It has everything that made a movie of that time great, and it has all the charm and style of a 90's high school romantic comedy. Larissa Oleynik was great, but for some reason never really hit it big. Times have changed since i was a teen, but I did find this film enjoyable on several levels and particularly enjoyed the period humor, etc. Extras, for a 10th anniversary edition, are sadly pretty lacking. Instead, we get one commentary and a weird 10th anniversary documentary. The plan is bankrolled by vapid model Joey Donner Andrew Keegan , who also has his eyes set on Bianca. There is a reason they tried to turn this movie into a television show, and there's also a reason that it didn't work. However, this is an early showcase for the talents of Heath Ledger and Joseph-Gordon Levitt. He has to work over the image and reputation of a character like his, to make him redeemable by the end of the film.
